Principal's Corner
Kirk Families,
There have been so many great things happening here at Kirk over the past few weeks. We have had many Watch Dogs on campus, Boosterthon fundraiser is going strong and many parents here on campus helping to support Kirk. Thank you parents for all that you do.
I want to send a few reminders and updates for the next few weeks.
School begins each day at 8:15. If you drop your child off late to school, you will need to come in and sign them in. It is so important that your child is at school on time each and every day. Instruction begins right at 8:15 each morning.
Our car rider line is fast and efficient. Please be here on time to pick your student up. All cars need to be in the line by 3:45.
On November 8th, Kirk will be a polling location. If you are coming that morning for a parent teacher conference, you will need to park in the front and enter through the front doors. The cafeteria will be closed off for voting.

PBIS
Our Mighty Tigers are so excited that our campus has PBIS Rewards. They are able to log on to my.cfisd.net and see how much Kirk Cash they have earned showing our K.I.R.K positive behavior expectations.
Our parents can log on to the PBIS Rewards Family App, as well. A parent letter was sent out with your special QR code to gain access to view your student’s progress. If you are needing a new letter, please let your student’s teacher know and we will get that to you as soon as possible.

TIgers!
I am so happy to finally have students back in the library. Everyone had orientation this week and learned that taking care of a book is a lot like taking care of a baby. Next week we will start our check-out schedule.
Your Librarian,
Mrs. Gallegos
Babies in the LIbrary
In the library we speak in a quiet voice like you would with a sleepy baby.
We are gentle with our book babies.
We hold our book baby with two arms.
We keep our hands and books clean and dry.
We keep them in a safe place like a backpack.
Primary Practices
Reading together as a family can be fun for everyone involved. After reading a story children can create a craft, create an alternate front cover a,nd many other activities. Below is a fall challenge all members of your family can participate in.
Adventures in Mathematics
Second Grade students are practicing the action of joining and separating by analyzing word problems. Students can practice this skill by reading word problems and identifying if the action is joining or separating.
Third Grade students are getting ready to learn about Perimeter and Area. This concept is one that can be practiced using various items at home! Students can use a ruler to measure the sides of a tissue box and add them up to discover the perimeter. Area can be practiced by multiplying the one side length by one side width of the tissue box. See how many items you can find at home to practice with!
Fourth and Fifth Grade students are making connections from their multiplication unit to the new division unit. Students will work on dividing whole numbers using partial products and the area model. They will also explore remainders in division and how to interpret them. Use the QR code below to see the different ways students can learn division.
Science Scholars
Second and Third grade students are starting to learn about Forces. Students in second grade will be tracing and comparing patterns of movement of objects such as sliding, rolling, and spinning over time. In third grade students will demonstrate and observe how position and motion can be changed by pushing and pulling objects such as swings, balls, and wagons. Parents can use various objects at home and have conversations about the movement and changes in motion.
Fourth grade is wrapping up their Life Science unit learning about food chains and food webs. Food chains show students the importance of plants and animals, producers and consumers, predators and prey. Food webs build on the food chain, focusing on how energy is given to each organism.
Fifth grade has begun learning about Geology. To start, the students are reminded of the way the Earth’s surface is changed due to weathering, erosion and deposition. Students can see this in the real world through floods, hurricanes and tornadoes (these are examples of rapid changes).
Loving Literacy
As we enter the second nine weeks, third through fifth grade students will be studying and reading informational texts as well as writing informational essays. Reading together as a family can be fun for everyone involved and is a great way to practice the reading skills they are learning during the day. After reading a book, students can create a craft, an alternate front cover , rewrite the blurb on the back of the book, and many other activities.

REPORTING CHROMEBOOK ISSUES
Nurse’s Corner
Unfortunately, it is the start of flu season. Flu can cause children under 4 years old to get very sick. Everyone ages 6 months and older should get annual flu shots. The best time to get the flu vaccine is before October 31st, but kids can get a flu shot at any time during flu season. Parents and Older Adults need their flu vaccine too.
Symptoms of the flu include: a sudden fever (usually above 100.4°F or 38°C), chills, headache, body aches, feeling tired, sore throat, dry, hacking cough, stuffy, runny nose, or some children may throw up (vomit) and have loose stools (diarrhea).
Please keep your child home if they are experiencing any of the above symptoms. They cannot return to school until they are fever free without medications for 24 hours.
Counselor Corner
Children thrive on consistency, structure, and predictability. Develop a morning routine that looks the same each day to help get you and your kids out the door with a smile! Starting their day, and yours, on a positive note can make all the difference. Don’t forget to create and follow a nighttime routine, too. Helping your child to wind down for a great night’s sleep allows their brain and body to process the day’s learning and prepare for tomorrow’s fun!
