UIL ANNOUNCES DISTRICT REALIGNMENTS
The University Interscholastic League (UIL) announced district realignments for football, volleyball, and basketball for the 2022-23 and 2023-24 school years. With an enrollment of 2,335 students, Dripping Springs High School will move up to the largest classification, Conference 6A, for the first time in school history.
Dripping Springs will be joined by Austin, Austin Akins, Austin Anderson, Austin Bowie, Austin Westlake, Buda Johnson, Del Valle, and Lake Travis High Schools to comprise District 26-6A, one of eight districts in Region 4.
Dripping Springs will be first-time district opponents with Austin, Austin Akins, Austin Anderson, Austin Bowie, and Austin Westlake. The Tigers have been in District 26-5A with Buda Johnson for the last two years. DSHS was aligned with Del Valle from 2000-04 and spent nearly 30 years as district foes with rival Lake Travis until 2012.
DSHS is one of 21 5A schools that will be moving up to Conference 6A with Austin Anderson and Buda Johnson also climbing the ranks. Conference 6A is comprised of 249 high schools competing in football and basketball and 247 volleyball schools with enrollments of at least 2,225 students.
District alignments for the remaining sports will be announced no later than March 2022, with academic alignments to follow. Additional realignment information can be found here.
THREE DSHS ORCHESTRA STUDENTS QUALIFY FOR STATE SOLO AND ENSEMBLE CONTEST
Three Dripping Springs High School students qualified for the UIL Orchestra State Solo and Ensemble Contest based on their performances at the UIL Region 18 competition on Saturday, Jan. 29, at Akins High School in Austin.
Seniors Lucy Elizarraras, Sophia Fisher and Kayla Stradling received Superior Ratings and advanced to the state contest on violin. The state competition will be held in May in Austin; a date has yet to be determined.
Freshman Corbin Meyer (violin) and sophomore Kira Granberry (viola) also received a Superior Rating.
DSHS SWIM TEAMS SUCCESSFUL AT DISTRICT MEET
The Dripping Springs High School boys’ and girls’ swimming and diving teams had successful showings at the District 18-5A Championships on Friday, Jan. 28, in San Antonio.
Both teams came away with second-place finishes behind Boerne Champion High School, while 28 students qualified for the Region V-5A competition for placing among the top-six finishers in their respective events. In addition, first-year head coach Michael Hoskovec was named the District 18-5A Girls’ Coach of the Year.
The girls’ team captured five first-place finishes including a victory in the 400-yard freestyle relay with Athena Turner, Macie McCurry, Anna Hoskovec, and Riley Dalton taking gold. Individually, Hoskovec took first in the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle races, Turner finished first in the 100-yard butterfly, and Peyton Grot-Lopp captured first in the 100-yard breaststroke.
For the boys, Gage Hembree took first in the 200-yard individual medley, while also being part of the winning 200-yard medley relay team of Colin O’Connor, Joseph Parsons, and Aidan Jones.
The girls’ and boys’ teams will each be represented by 14 athletes at the regional meet.
The Region V-5A Championships will be held Feb. 4-5 at the Texas A&M University Student Recreation Center Natatorium in College Station. Preliminaries will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Diving will take place on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. followed by the swimming finals at 3:30 p.m.

DSISD STUDENTS EARN HONORS AT HAYS COUNTY LIVESTOCK SHOW
Numerous Dripping Springs ISD students were successful at the 2022 Hays County Livestock Show with many earning honors in various breeds and classes.
Six students earned Grand Champion honors: Kellen Embrey (Home Skills), Nathan Powers (Market Steer), Camryn Cunningham (Market Goats), Roan Aleshire (Market Rabbit), Clayton Doyle (Breeding Swine), and Quincy Raines (Breeding Goat).
Reserve Grand Champion accolades went to six students in Home Skills: Kelsey Tovar, Kennedy Lorenzen, Keeley Miller, Clayton Wilks, Sybil Shumway, and Truett Herzog. Mille Powers (Market Steer), Peyton Hipolito (Market Swine), and Chazin Herzog (Breeding Rabbits) also earned the distinction.
Receiving Breed Champion honors were Allee Kirkey (Market Steer), Grayson Buaas (Market Swine), and Laramie Doyle (Market Swine). Drake Alderson (Ag Mech) was a Group Champion and Quincy Raines (Market Goats) was also named a Division Champion.
Reserve Breed Champion honors went to Laramie Doyle (Market Steer), Oscar Tovar (Market Steer), and Parker Cooke (Market Swine), while Barrett Collins (Market Lamb) and Allee Kirkey (Market Lamb) were named Reserve Champions.
PARENTS' NIGHT WITH JULIA COOK
Dripping Springs ISD will hold a parents' night with award-winning children's book author and parenting expert Julia Cook on Thursday, Feb. 10, from 6:00-7:30 p.m. in the Rooster Springs Elementary cafeteria. Childcare will be provided by DSHS students in the RSE gymnasium. Some of the topics covered will be balancing the parenting act, personal safety of kids, video game addiction, and more!
