Plastic Cap Project – letter from Rachel Quitance
Hi everyone! There have been some questions about the plastic cap project, so I wanted to give you an update! Yes, we are still collecting clean, plastic (only) caps! If you remember the link I sent a while back, (http://www.mericherry.com/2014/02/07/school-wide-bottle-cap-mural-project/) they used about 10,000 caps. We are doing two art boards (one for Navarro's class and one for Russo's class), approximately 4 feet by 6 feet. We may not need 10,000 caps, but we'll recycle whatever we don't use (or keep for another art board someday!). We do not have a design yet, I will be working with the teachers and the kids, and parents on the arts committee, to figure out what we want the designs to be. We will all brainstorm and come up with something amazing! Okay, so timeline! Since we are doing another beautification day with the city of West Hollywood, we thought this would be a great time to work on the boards because parents will be around to help. Beautification is going to be Saturday, January 17th (MLK weekend, no school Monday), approximately 9-3, more info to come. Children are welcome to attend, but there will be no childcare, so the children are expected to help out and parents cannot drop off. Perhaps if we have a lot of kids and parents who want to help, we can sign up in chunks so everyone has a chance to actually work on the boards. More on that as we get closer. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to email me. Since I've never done this type of project before, we'll all learn as we go. But, I know the end result will be awesome and I can't wait to make it happen with the kids! thanks! rachel rachelcue@yahoo.com
