WBMS Friday Notes
April 9-13
Reflections from Ms. Perkins
WBMS Parents and Guardians –
It was wonderful to see our students again after Spring Break! They all seemed to enjoy themselves and returned refreshed and ready to end the year strong. This week has been filled with lots of review and confidence-building for our End of Year Milestone Testing. I witnessed students and staff recapping skills and standards and focusing attention on specific areas of need to prepare for the assessments. Our students appeared assured and prepared to showcase their knowledge. I am proud of the growth they have illustrated so far this year! Be sure to enjoy this weekend with your family and friends. All the best!
In collaboration,
Rebecca Williams Perkins
Principal, Webb Bridge Middle School

WBMS raised over $4433 for Pennies for Patients!
Students at Webb Bridge Middle School celebrate a very successful 2018 Pennies for Patients campaign, raising $4433 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, an increase of $1400 over last year’s collection! This year’s effort was spearheaded by WBMS Student Council and Junior Beta Club; in 12 years of participation, WBMS has donated over $35,000 to the Society. Fundraising efforts this year included penny jars in the cafeteria, selling duct tape pieces to adhere assistant principals to the cafeteria wall and a heated competition among Joanna Gillespie’s 8th grade Georgia History classes which resulted in a total donation of $2363 from those five classes.

Attention 8th Grade Parents!
Plans are underway by our wonderful PTA for the annual 8th grade dance. This year’s event will take place on Friday, May 11, from 7:00-10:00 PM. Dance tickets will cost $20.00 and will include hors d'oeuvres, snacks, dessert, beverages, a DJ, prizes and more.
Here are some important upcoming dates:
April 11th – Dance invitations and permission slips with dance details will be distributed to students in homeroom.
April 19th and 25th – Tickets will only be sold on these dates through social studies classes. Students will need to have a signed permission slip to buy a ticket.
There will also be an online option to buy tickets. Instructions for online purchasing will be included with the permission slip going home on April 11th. If a ticket is purchased online, the student will still need to turn in a signed permission slip to the homeroom teacher.
In addition, gift card donations are needed as prizes to be awarded by our DJ during the dance. If you care to donate a gift card, please bring it to the front office labeled PTA/Dance. Thank you for your support!

8th Grade Parents
Smarties (candy) Alert!
The school is aware of a trend that is currently hitting some of our students, and we want our parents to be aware, also. Children and teens are grinding the Smarties into a powder and then making a line with the powder, similar to the way cocaine users line up their drugs. The kids then snort the Smarties into their noses. While the Smarties do not contain any addicting ingredients and the kids are not actually getting high, the phenomena seems to be popular. Doctors warn that the side effects of snorting Smarties can include lung infections, nose-wedged maggots, bleeding and nasal passage scarring, allergic reactions and smoker's cough. Please talk with your child about this dangerous behavior and do not buy your child Smarties.
