Principal's Post
Hello, Parkwood Families!
As the school year comes to an end, I want to thank you all for an amazing 2021-2022 school year. Our students have worked very hard to do their best at everything. Our school faculty and staff have worked hard all year to engage students in learning and prepare them for future endeavors. We are looking forward to a wonderful end of the school year to celebrate all of their hard work. We have a lot of fun learning and end of the year activities planned!
As school ends and Summer vacation begins, don't forget to continue to read. Below is a link to our Summer Reading List.

SUMMER READING 2022
Grade 3 The Chocolate Touch by Patrick Skene Catling
Grade 4 The Lemonade War by Jacqueline Davies
Grade 5 Frindle by Andrew Clements
Incoming sixth graders have a choice for summer reading:
Out of My Mind by Sharon Draper (choice for all levels)
Eleven-year-old Melody is not like most people. She can’t walk. She can’t talk. She can’t write. All because she has cerebral palsy. But she also has a photographic memory; she can remember every detail of everything she has ever experienced. She’s the smartest kid in her whole school, but NO ONE knows it. Most people—her teachers, her doctors, her classmates—dismiss her as mentally challenged because she can’t tell them otherwise. But Melody refuses to be defined by her disability. And she’s determined to let everyone know it...somehow.
Wonder by R. J. Palacio (choice for all levels)
August Pullman was born with a facial difference that, up until now, has prevented him from going to a mainstream school. Starting 5th grade at Beecher Prep, he wants nothing more than to be treated as an ordinary kid—but his new classmates can’t get past Auggie’s extraordinary face. WONDER, now a #1 New York Times bestseller and included on the Texas Bluebonnet Award master list, begins from Auggie’s point of view, but soon switches to include his classmates, his sister, her boyfriend, and others. These perspectives converge in a portrait of one community’s struggle with empathy, compassion, and acceptance.
