What boat shape floats the best?

by: Mrs. Acres' Kindergarten Class

Purpose

To find out if the shape of a boat affects how it floats.

Research

We watched the Brain Pop, Jr. called Sink or Float.

Hypothesis

3 students in our class think that the triangle boats will float the best.

1 student in our class thinks that the square boats will float the best.

4 students in our class think the circle boats will float the best.

12 students in our class think the rectangle boats will float the best.

Blue Table

Conclusion

All 4 tables found that the rectangle boat floated the best. It held the most pennies. The rectangle boats floated best because they had more room to hold air which made it float better. We learned from the Brain Pop movie that the more space for air the boat has compared to the other boats will help it float better because it is lighter than the water below. It has better buoyancy.
