The Shoally Creek Elementary Tweet
Weekly Update for July 22, 2020
A Message from the Principal
Greetings, Shoally Creek Families!
I hope that all of our SCES families are finding ways to enjoy these summer months in safe and healthy ways! We continue to miss all of our students and our families during this time! What we have and are experiencing has been challenging for everyone, and I know we will be better and stronger because we continue to work together and support one another as a school family!
Over the past few weeks, you have received information from our Superintendent, Mr. Radford on the 2020-2021 "Return 2 Learn" proposals. The first thing you should know is that all our focus, and every single one of our priorities, are directed toward protecting the health, safety and wellness of our students and staff while giving students the best possible learning experience that is as close to normal as health and safety allow. We have been working tirelessly to prepare our beautiful school to welcome back our staff members and students in the safest way possible. This will require some new procedures and protocols for everyone, and those will be shared in the coming weeks through this weekly newsletter. I encourage you all to please continue to visit our D2 "Return to Learn" webpage (www.spart2.org/r2l) as there are frequent updates being provided for our families in regards to the 2020-2021 school year.
Many of you have been wondering about our "JAYS Beyond the Bell" after school program. We are currently exploring the possibility of having "JAYS" during the 2020-2021 school year. We remain optimistic that we will be able to take the necessary safety precautions in order to have the program. As you can imagine, there will be revisions to the procedures and protocols in order to ensure the safety of our staff and our students. The after school program would be an option only when we are in school face-to-face.
We would also like to remind everyone that in order to further protect the citizens within our community during the COVID-19 pandemic, all District 2 schools and the District Office will be closed to walk up visitors until further notice. All citizens who need to visit schools or the district office should contact the main office at each location for assistance. Please call ahead for assistance. We will be here to assist and serve. Our school office number is 864-594-3200. Please visit our district’s webpage for further information related to COVID-19.
Online Registration for returning students for the 2020-2021 school year is currently open. You should have received important registration information via email back in March from Pearson Online Registration. Included in that email is your child’s required Snapcode that is needed to begin the registration process. If you believe you do not receive this important registration email, please be sure to check your SPAM or Junk email as it might be located there. If you have questions, or require assistance with the online registration process, please feel free to call the school at 864-594-3200 and ask to speak with Mrs. Reece.
We want everyone to know that we are here to offer help and support in any way that we can during this time. We are here to serve our students and our families. Taking care of each other..."This is How We Roll!"
Sending lots of positive energy your way!
Much love!
♥Mrs. Meyer

i-Ready Available to Students through July 24!
Summer is for fun, relaxing, and family time, but it can also be a time in which it is super-easy to forget what was learned throughout the school year! We want all of our Blue Jays to avoid the “Summer Slide” and remember the content they worked so hard to learn! During the weeks of June 1st - July 23rd, SCES students have the opportunity to participate in SCE’s “Summer iReady Challenge”!
Here’s how: Each student who completes at least 10 lessons (5 in reading & 5 in math) with at least an 80% or higher pass rate will be invited to participate in a fun celebration once we return to school in the fall!!! But wait, there is MORE...Each student who completes 16 or more lessons (8 in reading & 8 in math) with an 80% or higher pass rate will be invited to participate in the fun celebration AND the student’s name will be entered into a drawing to win one of five $50.00 shopping sprees at Barnes & Noble!
To access iReady on a computer or iPad, log-on to Clever and then iReady using the student’s school email and password. The cut-off to complete lessons will be Thursday, July 23rd. Students do not need to document their work. Our SCES literacy and math coaches will download student progress to determine which students will qualify for the fun celebration and the drawings! Happy learning this summer with iReady!
