Parent Volunteers

Carol and I discussed possibly serving a special lunch catered by Blue Pike Cantina to honor those parents who have dedicated time above and beyond field trips and classroom parties. Please add the names of volunteers to this Google Doc so we can know the number of potential volunteer lunch attendees and can determine if a lunch would be feasible.

Open House for New Students

Our Open House is next week, and the plans are coming together. I am working on a presentation to share at the beginning and am going to meet with Karrie Mackie and Kelly Vogler to discuss the PTO's part of the presentation. After the presentation portion of the hour, I would like current students to guide families around the building. Lori and some of her students will be working on a class keeping quilt, and it would be great if other teachers and students were stationed in classrooms so our new Sailors can get a sense of activities that happen in our school. The evening will culminate with new students receiving a Belle River water bottle with some special goodies inside and a coupon to use at the Kona Ice truck parked in the circle drive.

I am looking for some student leaders who would be available on May 18th, 6:00-7:00, to give building tours to our new students during the Open House. Please add one or two names to the Google Doc if you have a student interested in helping and available that evening. I will meet with these students and send notes home with them to inform parents. The Fessenden girls are already scheduled.

Sailor Day

We are partnering with Marine City Middle School on the Ford Motor Company's "Drive One 4UR School" fundraiser. Ford Motor Company prefers a full day event, so they will be at MCMS for Mariner Day from 8:00 am until 12:30 pm. and Belle River Elementary from 1:00 until 3:00 on August 25. We are going to call our event Sailor Day. Staff attendance would be voluntary, of course, but Carol and I will be here to distribute information and schedule fall conferences.

Sailor Day might replace the Open House held the week before school starts, and a Curriculum Night could be held during the first or second week of school. We can discuss this on our PD day or at our next staff meeting.

New PTO Officers for 2016-2017 School Year

These Belle River parents were elected at last week's PTO meeting to serve on the Board for two years:

Karrie Mackie - President

Bree Hoski - Vice President

Tabitha Servick - Treasurer

Angela Drouillard will continue to serve as the PTO secretary.

Summer School Students

The "Sail Into Learning" (Summer School) program will run from July 25-August 12 this summer. However, we are going to do Criteria Lists a bit differently this year. Please see the google sheet I have shared with you below. Notice each grade level has its own tab.

We can allot time during our building-based PD on May 12 to complete the lists, if necessary. The information needs to be completed by Friday, May 13.

The lists will then be reviewed by Catherine and Mike the following week. Afterwards, we will receive feedback on what students can be invited to summer school based on the needs of the students and spaces available. Once the lists are approved, teachers can make their contact home to invite each child to the program. Once the teachers finish their phone calls and have a list of what parents accept the invitation, the parent letters and permission slips can be distributed. These parent letters and permission slips will be sent out to you at a later date in May.
