Jaymie Walton, RN, has been a nurse for 25 years. Jaymie was born and raised in Colorado and received her degree from the University of Colorado! STAAR Testing Week
What a tremendous job our staff and students did this week with STAAR test. The preparation by the administrators and the counseling staff was incredible as everything went smoothly. Special thanks to the teachers for making the students feel comfortable during this week and for preparing them all year to be successful on the tests.
Congratulations to our three new board members: Mike Henry, Brad Rogers, and Ben Shelton. We look forward to your service on the board.
Kudos
- Mr. Snell, my economics classes just completed their stock market game exercise. For the past 10 weeks, these kids have bought, sold, researched, and tracked their portfolio. There were a total of 411 teams from schools in our region. Spring Hill High School had 9 teams finish in the top 50. They did a great job! - J. White
- Allison Bowles and Paige Childers have done a wonderful job of organizing and communicating to the teachers and the students their responsibilities during EOC week. We are excited to see our results on this year EOC exams!
- Congratulations to Coach Donnie Denman, Coach Billingslea, and Coach Beaver on administering the Fitness Gram

Letter from a community member in support of the SH Band
This letter is an example of the wonderful community we have in Spring Hill:
Dear Mr. Kiser,
I have watched the Spring Hill ISD bands since my oldest grandson, Tyler Ferrell, began the band program in sixth grade. Now I have two more grandchildren, Valerie Ferrell and Tanner Ferrell in the band programs. I have been and remain thoroughly impressed with these band programs.
I am a beneficiary of an outstanding band program in the 1960's in Hereford, Texas. A young band director, Mr. Ben Gollehon, took over a poorly functioning band program and turned it into a well-respected, highly acclaimed program. If I recall correctly, Mr. Gollehon started in 1960. By the time I was a high school junior in 1968, the Hereford High School band was named the Texas Music Educators' Association AAA honor band. I remember attending the Austin TMEA convention and performing. It was a great time....not quite as great as winning the Buccaneer Music Festival in Corpus Christi the year before....but great just the same. I mean....after all....Austin didn't quite compare with my first visit to the Gulf of Mexico while in Corpus Christi!
I remember the band truck following our buses. It was emblazoned with our mascot and painted in school colors. Everywhere we went in and near our UIL district during fall football games, fans knew what to expect when our band took the field. We may not have always fielded the most competitive football teams, but we were always competitive as a band, having only one equal, the Pampa Harvesters, who were in AAAA.
Because of those great memories, because I believe I benefited from band in many ways, including but not limited to discipline, music education, and traveling, I wanted to be a part of the Spring Hill Panther Blue Brigade fund raising process for the band truck. After speaking to my non-band member wife, we agreed to make a $500 donation toward the band truck, in anticipation of our gift encouraging other like-minded parents, grandparents, Spring Hill alumni, friends of the Blue Brigade, and band member alumni from other areas to match (or exceed) our donation.
As my wife and I heard the bands this evening and observed the individual actions of band members and educators, we understood the band programs are molding responsible young adults, and assisting each band member to develop into a contributing member of society. We felt great leaving the auditorium after hearing the musical performances, appreciating the students' accomplishments, and garnering a furthered appreciation for the integrity, hard work, and dedication of each band staff member.
When Spring Hill Superintendent Snell spoke evening, his verbal statements echoed my thoughts.....and that is Spring Hill High School has the best high school band director in the State of Texas. Having learned and participated in a great band lead by Mr. Ben Gollehon, I am well qualified to agree with your superintendent's opinion.
Good luck, Randy, and to the band boosters in raising funds for this worthy project. You are authorized to use this email, and information about our donation in any manner that will assist the band in obtaining the equipment truck it needs. You can expect receipt of our donation via mail next week.
Many regards,
Kim and
Reeny
