Woods Weekly
Week of November 2nd-6th
Classroom Happenings
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Students are allowed to bring in a small snack to have during our reading block since we have such a late lunch. **All snacks need to be from our healthy snack list; they also need to be nut free due to allergies. **
Please continue to check your child's planner every day. Your child is expected to write down the daily assignments each day. Before leaving the classroom, I check each student's planner. If your child did not turn in an assignment that day, a note will have been written at the bottom of his/his planner.
Here is a look at what is coming up next week:
Science:
We are finishing up unit 4. We will discuss erosion, deposition, and ways that weathering and erosion affect people. A study guide will be given out on Wednesday, and students will have class time to work on it. The study guide is due Thursday; we will go over it during class. We will play a review game on Friday and test on Monday.
Social Studies:
We will resume social studies at the beginning of December.
Math:
We are extending our multiplication skills to include multiplying 2-digit by 2-digit numbers using the standard method. We will also be revisiting area which will provide additional practice multiplying multi-digit numbers.
Reading:
**If you are willing and able to donate a copy of Fish in a Tree, it would be greatly appreciated. We are in need of 3 more copies to have enough for each student to use one for our novel study. A HUGE thank-you to those of you who have already donated! I appreciate the generosity you have shown and believe it will make a difference in how we navigate through this incredible story!
We are beginning our novel study of Fish in a Tree. This week, we will be reading and discussing chapters 1-10. Through the course of our novel study, we will practice a variety of skills such as summarizing, inferring, visualizing, characterizing, and making connections. Please save all worksheets from the novel study. These will be great study tools for the test at the end of our novel.
Writing:
I am finishing up writing conferences, and students are typing up their final copies of their personal narrative in Google Docs.
I hope you have a safe and spook-tacular Halloween!
