Lakeview Guidance and Counseling
May 2022
Hi Lakeview!
May 2022
We are down to our last 15 days of school, and I cannot believe how quickly the school year has flown by! This last month of school is always really busy, but it is really fun, too. May contains just too many activities, field trips, recognitions and celebrations to count. This past week we had an awesome Teacher Appreciation Week. And, many, many thanks to our PTA president, Darian Webb and all of our PTA volunteers that came together to host such a full, fun week of events, treats, gifts, food and snacks for us! We truly appreciated all that you provided for us throughout the week and you made us feel so special and valued!
We also celebrated Cinco De Mayo on May 5th and our students enjoyed learning more about this being the day that Mexico defeated France in the Battle of Puebla in 1862. Students enjoyed several activities to celebrate Mexican heritage, customs and traditions, too. And, they had a lot of fun doing it!
May is also Mental Health Awareness Month. Working together we can help normalize mental health conditions and continue to move our community and society toward breaking the stigma that surrounds those with mental health needs.
Mrs. Palermo’s Lakeview in the Know newsletters will include more information about these and several other activities and events coming up this month. Be sure to always check out her weekly newsletters to stay up to date with all happenings at Lakeview.
If I can help you or your child in any way, please don't hesitate to contact me at any time at the school. I can be reached by phone at 405-366-5899. Or, you are welcome to contact me via email at aprilt@norman.k12.ok.us.
(Note: While I do post this monthly newsletter through SeeSaw, contacting me via phone or email is the best way to catch me.)
Thank you,

Anxiety Symptoms
And, if you believe you or your child may be experiencing high anxiety, please reach out. We know the last two school years with COVID and the additional school closures for weather have had a huge impact on regular routines, schedules and consistency with families. We have ALL experienced some of these symptoms in one way or another as we attempt to gain some sense of normalcy. (Which is normal.) If day to day life has become overwhelmingly stressful and unmanageable, we can connect you with resources that can help. Please contact me at any time, and I can discuss several options with you. There is hope and treatment available.

A Sense of Belonging
"In school, a sense of belonging gives students feelings of security, identity and community, which, in turn, support academic, psychological and social development (Jethwani-Keyser, 2008).
Click below to hear Diane Alber's book, "A Little Spot of Belonging" read aloud. This is a charming book that further explains the importance of always being kind, inclusive and friendly.
