Crazy Doc's rant and raves...
Thanksgiving is upon us, this can be a struggle for our kids! This is a great time to use our mindfulness activites and resources to meet the kids where they are.
Quick hits:
- IC check was sent out this morning. We would love to have everything done prior to winter break.
- i-Ready testing is once again upon us. Sitting and testing for a long period of time can be a challenge. Please make sure to set a timer and do a Go Noodle activity during regular intervals during testing.
- Jill C. sent out the information about blue jean days, take advantage and help some great kids.
- If you have something cool going on in class and would like either Misty or I to see, please send us an invite. We love to go and see all the things happening in your room.
- Please remember to fill out this form for each of your students and then identify the top 3-4 and place on TST. We only have about 1/4 of the students complete. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1e9Dr2nfsU7yNrTyTryZRhYL_VzcFk3onLa3SXR97rlE/edit?usp=sharing the original ask date was midquarter, which was last week. Please get it knocked out soon.
Shirt order in the link below this box, lots of great designs.
Don't forget to keep track of your extra event attendance. Please remember everyone is expected to attend on PTA Meeting this year plus 2 additional events: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1xru7fuenf01e2mb01wCoQhbrDw_zVEI_wImMFI7wA1g/edit?usp=sharing
Power Struggles
Hello Bingham Family,
In my Equity & Access workshops, we have started reading Power Struggles. Dr. Meador gave the staff this book last year, and admittedly, I glanced through it. I did not read it cover to cover. I plan to do so this weekend. For those of you who have read it or need a refresher, I thought I’d share my recent reading assignment:
Read pages 15-33 in Power Struggles.
Pick two ideas from Power Struggles that you feel are a good fit for your staff/site. What needs to be added to them from an equity lens?
If any of you would be interested in sharing your thoughts, I’ve also set up a Google Doc for collaboration. This is not a required assignment for our staff, but because we are focusing on meeting diverse students’ needs and school climate, I figured we could submit our comments to Dr. Meador for Randa Tower.

Finally, I really want to try a check-in and check-out system with my some of my students. The Equity Champions who are using this have found success with it. Here is a video focusing on the strategy (We’ve seen this school before in Mindfulness discussions):
Teacher Spotlight
Nurses Cindy and Karin - they have been wrapping up the health fair, dealing with lice, sick kids, and spending large quantities of time with our diabetic students. Thank you!
Thank you to all of the running buddies who are doing the 5K on Sunday.
Do you have a idea for a person in the spotlight? Please let me know.
FROM MISTY
Please don't forget to begin scheduling your Reading and Writing IC observations. I've added my days in the building at the top and shared my calendar with those on my list. Don't hesitate to pop in the office and schedule with me in person if that's easiest.
What are you needing support with? What information can I provide you in the "News & Notes" that might support you and your students? Email me your topics and I will do some finding. :)
Team work makes the dream work! #ONEteamONEdream
On-Going Reminders
- If you send a student to the focus room please do so with one of the tickets Casey has provided, that way she knows why they are there. If they do not have a ticket they will be sent back to class.
- Please follow the nurse's stoplight schedule.
- If you send a student to the office please make sure they have a pass.
- Please make sure you are not sending large printing jobs to the basic printers, please send these to the copiers.
- Lunch counts and attendance need to be entered by 9:30, or Terri will start calling.
Recycling
- Mrs. Earls will take this over this year. Please remember to have your bins out in the hallway on recycling day!
