Carnegie Chronicle
April 2023
Note from the Director
Many of you already know Carmen Rose, either as a long-time Eureka Springs resident, or as the instructor of the library's popular weekly Spanish classes. We are pleased to announce she has been hired as an employee. Stop by the circulation desk to say "hola"!
The "Reel" History film series in collaboration with the Eureka Springs Historical Museum has been a huge hit. If you haven't attended yet, you have one more chance on April 28th. We will show films from the 1980s and 1990s, so many residents will be recognized. Hope you can make it!
Now is the perfect time to start that garden you always dreamed of. Let the library help and save you money in the process! Our seed library is fully stocked, and we have garden tools ready for you to check out. See information below or ask us for details.
With gratitude,
Christina Danos
Seasonal StoryWalk on Springgarden Trail
This spring, take a stroll down the Spring Garden Trail to read Bear is a Bear (except when he's not), by Karl Newson, on display in the StoryWalk podiums installed on the Spring Garden trail between Harmon Park and Springgarden Road. When one sleepy bear wakes up early from his winter sleep, he's confused. Is he a bird? Or a moose? A fox perhaps? Or even a squirrel? No! He's definitely a bear, and it's time this bear went back to sleep . . . Thank you to volunteers Ty and Ez for helping to install this season's featured story.
Carnegie's Library of Things
We've got you covered this spring with new additions to the Library of Things! From seeds to plant in your garden (limit of 10 packets per season per patron), garden tools to assist with the job, and even a ukulele to sit and play while you admire your hard work. Most items check out for one week, and all you need is your library card. We're happy to help at the main building circulation desk!
Science + Philosophy Discussion Group
Come and explore some questions about life, the world, what it is, how it works, who we are, and what we should do. Wednesdays and Thursdays at 12:30 PM - Wednesdays we look at "reality" from the bottom up currently listening and discussing On the Genealogy of Morality by Friedrich Nietzsche. Thursdays we approach from a top-down spiritual view, with Decoding Jung's Metaphysics, by Bernardo Kastrup. For more info: Gary@Milczarek.org.
First Friday Book Club
Drop into the Library Annex Meeting Room on Friday, May 5th at 10:30am to discuss On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous by Ocean Vuong, and pick up a copy of the next book: Sea of Tranquility by Emily St. John Mandel. A novel of art, time travel, love, and plague that takes the reader from Vancouver Island in 1912 to a dark colony on the moon five hundred years later, unfurling a story of humanity across centuries and space. This book will be discussed on Friday, June 2nd at 10:30am.

Every Thursday at 5:00pm, Carmen teaches a Beginner Spanish Class, for those who are just learning and aren't quite ready for the Tuesday group. All ages welcome!

In the Library meeting room, or in the Library Garden (weather permitting) every Wednesday from 4:30pm-6:00pm you may hear the soulfully sweet tunes of our very own Don Matt and the talented Scott Thompson as they play acoustic folk tunes for any and all those lucky enough to sit for a spell and give a listen.
