President-Elect
Erik Heard
I believe I would be a good fit for this position because of my leadership at the school, district, state, and national level for Physical Education and Health Literacy. I have skills and experience necessary to help the association grow and take the next necessary steps for a healthy future. I am passionate about helping educators from all over the state of Iowa and believe my personality is suited for this leadership role. I also believe that working collaboratively is one of my strengths that can help us move forward with state standards as we build relationships across Iowa.
Leadership Council (Vote for 2)
Clint Driftmier
I want to help reach more passionate Physical Education teachers and make them aware of IAHPERD, in order to help all teachers network and continue to grow from each other. I believe that a position on the Leadership Council would be a great position for me and a great way for me to give back to the organization that has helped me so much through my teaching career. We need more Physical Education teachers to join this amazing organization to continue to allow us all to grow professionally. There is no better way to network with people in our profession than this, and I want to help get the word out to as many of those teachers as possible. I hope to be able to share my passion for Physical Education with the IAHPERD members and great leaders.
Justin Kinney
I believe I would be a good fit for this position because I am passionate about helping students grow into men and women of character. I am dedicated to teaching physical education and want to advocate for our roles as educators in the professional community. I also believe I have vision and “outside-the-box” thinking in regards to physical education, and I think that mentality carries over to all aspects of being an educator. As physical educators, the sky is the limit for what we can achieve in our classrooms, and I would welcome the opportunity to work on a team to continue moving forward.

years in PE. One year at Summit Middle School with Special Education in 6th and 7th grade. One year at Woodward Academy with Social Studies and PE for grades 6-12.
Great advocate for Physical Education. Great at connecting peers in the field. I’m always willing to be a resource to those in our field. I’m interested in growing IAHPERD.
Jenny Smith
I joined IAHPERD as an undergraduate student at ISU in 2004. I have enjoyed assisting with the preparations in past years when Iowa State University was fortunate enough to host the annual convention. I also enjoy attending the national SHAPE conferences with my most recent attendance being at Nashville, TN in 2018. In addition to being a SHAPE member, I am also an Iowa SOPHE member (Society of Public Health Educators). I serve on the Story County Policy Board which has been very active with social and health concerns such as electronic nicotine device legislation.
I am an established professional at Iowa State University and would like to work more closely with an organization that is motivated to make necessary changes to make both health and physical education a priority in the state of Iowa. I have become an advisor for the ISU PE Club and recognize the need to promote relevant professional development for our pre-service teachers so they are prepared to advocate for our children and adolescents. I am passionate with my work at Iowa State University whether it be with undergraduate populations or youth in the Ames area.
I am a problem-solver and pride myself on my organization skills. I enjoy my committee work for the university as well as local organizations in the state and county. When it comes to the world of education, it takes a group of driven people to elicit change. I have the drive and dedication to make a difference with IAHPERD.

I believe I will bring ideas to the Leadership Council based on my experiences in the classroom and past experiences with my involvement in IAHPERD.

I have been a member of IAHPERD since moving to Iowa 3 years ago. This past year I have served as the Social Media Chair and as a member of nominations committee.
I have worked as note taker and archivist in past roles and am confident that I have the organization and attention to detail required for the role. I am excited about acting as liaison for committees as I enjoy the process of getting others actively involved and contributing to our organization. I also look forward to continuing my role as social media chair. I am eager to take a more active role in IAHPERD and as secretary, I believe I can help our team push the momentum of our profession.
Treasurer

I believe I would be a good fit for this position as I have had a large amount of experience working in the IAHPERD Leadership Council. During this time, I have helped to form budgets and have seen how Jennifer Schnell has expertly taken care of the organizations money. During this time, I have helped to find ways to save our organization money while also trying to continue our work for our members. With some help and guidance, I think I can continue to help make financially responsible decisions for IAHPERD.
