#TogetherWeRise
Week of October 2, 2023
Teachers and Staff,
Happy October! Thank you all for a great first month of school and a great Back to School Night. As we begin October, let's be intentional about checking in and being there for one another. October is a long month, and we want to ensure that we are supporting one another so that we can be our best for our students.
Thank you for all that you do! I appreciate you! #TogetherWeRise
Proudly,
Stacey

Williams Visits
We scored 94/100 on our Facility Williams Visit last week, which is considered a good rating. We were penalized for the missing/discolored ceiling tiles. This is something that we will continue to work on with the district's Maintenance Department. Shout out to Kevin, Tamica, Al, and Arirck for all of their work in keeping our campus clean!
The Textbook Williams Visit is on Tuesday, 10/3. We do not have a set time, but we expect them in the morning. This team will ask you and your students questions about textbooks. During the visit, students may be asked:
- Do you have a book?
- What's the title of the book?
- Can you take it home?
If you know of a student who needs books, please email Benuzzi, Jimenez, or Velasco immediately. Thank you!
Student Engagement and Belonging Committee Update
October is National Bullying Prevention Month. Mrs. Sanchez and Ms. Knight will be kicking off the month with a bullying prevention wellness lesson in PE on October 2nd and 3rd. On October 18th we will unite with our students and wear orange in solidarity for bullying prevention. During the week of the 18th, WEB will be out at lunch with a banner students can sign to take the pledge against bullying. We have anti-bullying posters that were provided to us from the district. This is what the posters look like. If you would like one for your classroom, please let Mrs. Sanchez know. Thank you! -Knight, Kennedy, Torrent, Nuno, Balchunas, Cooper, Christy and Sanchez

Upcoming Field Trips
- Young Black Scholars Club is visiting LA Coliseum for the Tech Empowerment Day on 10/4. Mrs. Walker and Ms. Eley are leading this club. Here is the list of students who are attending the field trip: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/153B9EKcCXFFocBaJXn1weFOfJS1f7N6tEx4TefHkAWQ/edit?usp=sharing
- FLA is visiting the Holocaust Museum on 10/31. Mrs. Madison will be sending out a list of who is attending closer to the date of the field trip.
Both of these field trip are opportunities for our students gain experiences outside of the classroom and are free for us because we are a Title 1 school. We are excited for our students to be able to attend these field trips!
Internal Learning Walk (ILW)
The purpose of this walkthrough is for us to collect data internally to use as part of our PDSA cycle to determine next steps in our professional development. The focus of our ILW is student engagement because it our professional development area of focus. Our equity inquiry questions are:
- To what extent are students engaged socially-emotionally, physically, and cognitively?
- What opportunities do students have to engage cognitively in the lesson without opting out?

New Office Phone Line
Prior to this, the extensions only called individual people, not the entire office. This is why you may have had times when your call was not answered. I apologize for not realizing this problem with the new phones earlier. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
