FISD Early Childhood School
Where the Adventure Begins...
Happy Friday!
ONE AND DONE! We are officially kicking off our annual fundraiser! Monday and Tuesday we will be sending home an envelope with each student. We are asking for each family to make a one time donation to our school. You can send in cash or check in whatever amount you feel led to donate. We will send a receipt home for your records. We will use all the money toward materials for our classrooms that students will use directly. This will help us purchase books, manipulatives, toys that support motor development and social skills, and other classroom resources that will maximize learning. This is our once a year fundraiser so please consider making a donation to support ECS! This fundraiser will run until November 17th. Thank you, in advance, for supporting our school!
Picture Day is Wednesday, Oct. 18th! You should have received more information from your child's teacher. We always love to see our sweet children all dressed up for picture day!
GUESS WHAT?!?! Our FUN RUN is TUESDAY NIGHT, October 24th from 5:30-6:30! We are so excited about it! The weather should be perfect, Mr. Turkey will be there to warm up and run with your families, our favorite fireman and fire clowns will be there to cheer on the kids, and we will have booths set up inside the cafe with great info and give-aways for the kids! We will also have the book fair open for any shopping you'd like to do while you are here! This is always one of our favorite family events, so we hope you can all make it out!!

I Want to Hear From You!!
Many of you have posted comments, suggestions or questions on my Parent Padlet. Thank you! It is one of the ways for me to stay connected with you and allows other parents to see your questions. You never know when someone else is wondering the same thing. The cool thing is that it is completely anonymous! So post away and I will be sure to respond.

School districts all over Texas and the nation will focus on Red Ribbon Week at the end of October. Red Ribbon Week was established to promote drug-free schools. Teaching young children about this topic can be tricky. At ECS, I prefer to focus on healthy habits and safety. In PreK classes we discuss ways we can grow healthy brains and healthy bodies. We will also talk about which people they can trust to give them medicine and vitamins.
During our Red Ribbon lesson, our students will watch a YouTube video called “Sarah’s Sick Day,” and I will lead the students in a discussion about Sarah’s decisions. Take heart, the movie shows things our students are already familiar with: feeling sick and medicines in the home. We will also sort common household objects that are safe to put in our bodies and objects little hands should not touch, like medicine containers. Students will also learn to first ask parents before eating things like candies, soft drinks, and other treats. These foods may taste yummy, but only parents can decide if it’s appropriate to have. We will have fun learning about “Oh, The Things You Can Do That Are Good for You!”
Here’s how parents can support a healthy lifestyle:
· Keep communication open and use “teachable moments” which occur in daily life
· Use a calm voice and use words your child can understand
· If they see a movie or show with a character using cigarettes or alcohol talk about it with your child
· Talk about the “drugs” that help when sick
· Talk about who can give medicine to your child
· Talk about what happens if a child takes too much medicine or the wrong kind
· Talk about how unhealthy activities will hurt future dreams and goals
· Talk about healthy practices which will help achieve dreams and goals
In our PPCD classrooms, we will continue to support the following skills through body awareness: impulse/emotional control, attention, & prioritization. Through play, we will create an environment for students to feel connected and safe. It is also time for student to practice self-regulation skills for healthy brain development. We will wrap –up the lesson with a read aloud about safety. Students will learn how to avoid possible dangers and to ask for help.
