Historical Mural Unveiling at Welcome Home Boutique & Art Space in Downtown Lemon Grove

We had an amazing time this weekend celebrating the historical mural unveiling at Welcome Home Boutique & Art Space in downtown Lemon Grove!

This gorgeous 70-foot mural is the work of famed muralist Mario Chacon and highlights “the Lemon Grove Incident,” the first successful public school desegregation case in the country, and a precursor to the famous Supreme Court case Brown v. the Board of Education.

We were also excited to see the artwork of our students at Lemon Grove Academy Middle School and San Altos Elementary School, which expressed their gratitude to the bravery of the parents and students who stood up to the racist school segregation policies, allowing students of all races the equal access to education they deserve.

We appreciated seeing such an overwhelming amount of support from parents, students, and community members. Keep up the great work Lemon Grove!
