Welcome Back to School
Helpful hints:
- Please plan ahead for PM car pick-up. We ask that you email teachers by 11:00 am if there are changes. After lunch, teachers are not always able to check email. Their priority is using class time for instruction and interactions with students.
- If you would like to meet with a teacher, it is helpful to set up an appointment. Often teachers have faculty and grade level meetings after school.
- Class begins at 7:30 am. All teachers begin instruction right away in the morning to maximize learning. If your child is late, they lose this valuable time. Please drop off your child at 7:15 a.m. so they have time to prepare for the day. Students arriving after 7:30 am are marked tardy. Three tardies = a full day of school.
- We offer many activities, programs, events throughout the year. They are only possible through active parent volunteers in order to make it happen. All parents are asked to volunteer 20 hours per family this school year. It is a great way to meet other parents and feel connected to our SHCS community.
- Please make sure your child can open items in their lunch they bring from home.

September 30 School Marathon @ Sanborn Park 9:15 am
Marathon -- Saturday, September 30th 9:15 am. We expect $300 in pledges for each student. We have eliminated our read-a-thon.
Our Marathon is only 4 weeks away! The information sheet will be sent home TOMORROW! Students may now start collecting pledges through PLEDGESTAR! It is ready to go. This website will allow you to email grandparents, family and friends near and far to collect online donations. You may still collect cash and checks made out to Sacred Heart Catholic School. Simply turn pledges into the school office and we will enter them into your child's PledgeStar account.
We will gather on on Sept. 30th at 9:15 a.m. for prayer. Grab a donut before you begin.
NEW THIS YEAR: We will have interactive stations along the route with plenty of photo opportunities. Once you arrive back at Sanborn Park, enjoy free hot dogs, chips.
We will have the MN Nice Cream truck at the park with many ice cream items and a variety of coffee to purchase. Games will be available onsite for the students and adults and a big playground. This is a great way to meet other families in our school! SAVE THE DATE!
This fundraiser is the only mandatory fundraiser for SHCS and its success is a tremendous example of how SHCS families and staff pull together to accomplish our goals. Our goal is for EVERY student to bring in the required $300 fundraising goal for the Marathon. The Marathon is also a celebration and a chance for people to come together. We have fun walking, running or biking. All funds remain here at Sacred Heart and they are used to offset the rising costs of providing a quality education. So if you are asked, “Where does the money go?” It truly goes to support every part of our mission.
Please remember that we are no longer doing our Read-a-thon fundraiser. We are counting on EACH student bringing in $300 worth of pledges for our marathon.

Marathon 2023
For our Marathon 2023 this year, we're using an awesome web based fundraising system that makes it much easier for you to request pledges from your family and friends, and for them to make secure credit card donations online. It's fun, it's easy, and people who use it typically raise twice as much as those who don't!
Remember, our Marathon 2023 is September 30, so please register now to help our school raise as much as we can for things that will benefit our learning such as: STEM materials, technology, hands-on materials, and student activities.
Using your computer's browser:
- Go to http://pledgestar.com/sacredheart
- Click “Not Registered For This Year’s Event”
- Enter your name and email address, then click “Submit”
- Follow the instructions on-screen to register Jogger(s) and add family and friends
Using your Android or Apple phone or tablet:
- Go to the Apple App Store on IOS or the Amazon App Store on Android and search for "PledgeStar" to download the Family App, or go to https://pledgestar.com/sacredheart/downloadapp.html
- On the home screen enter your event code: “sacredheart” to locate your event
- Click “Not Registered For This Year’s Event”
- Enter your name and email address, then click “Submit”
- Follow the instructions on-screen to register Jogger(s) and add family and friends
When you finish, the system emails pledge requests to your family and friends, and allows them to make secure credit card donations online. You get notified each time a pledge is made, and you can track your pledge progress online.

September Virtue and Manner of the Month
We will focus on one virtue and one manner each month.
“Faith is the theological virtue by which we believe in God and believe all that he has said and revealed to us, and that Holy Church proposes for our belief, because he is truth itself. By faith man freely commits his entire self to God. For this reason the believer seeks to know and do God’s will. The righteous shall live by faith. Living faith works through charity.” -Catechism of the Catholic Church 1814
We grow in the virtues of faith, hope and charity by nourishing them through reading the Word of God, begging the Lord in daily prayer to increase them in us, receiving the Sacraments to strengthen us to persevere in living the virtues, studying the Faith in an ongoing way, cooperating with the Holy Spirit, and following His call to do what is good.
Manner
Greeting students and adults around us
Why is it important to greet others?
A greeting can be so powerful that it can even turn your frown in to a smile and drastically put you in a good mood. Greeting is one of the basic functions of communication and triggers positive conversations. It helps us connect to people at a more personal level. We greet others by saying good morning, hello, good evening, happy birthday, Merry Christmas, have a good day, etc.Meet our new Peace of Mind Counselor
My name is Emma Delisi and I am so excited to get to know everyone at Sacred Heart!
I graduated from Creighton University with a Masters in School Counseling and Preventive Mental Health in the Spring of 2023. This is my second year as a school counselor with Phoenix and my first year with Peace of Mind.
Outside of work some of my hobbies include hiking with my husband on the North Shore, cuddling with my two cats, and reading a good book on rainy days.
Excited to meet with you all of you.

Parent/Student Handbook reminders
https://sacredheartschoolrobbinsdale.org/studentparent-handbook/
A couple reminders:
1. School starts at 7:30 a.m. Students should arrive at 7:15am, students come in the building at 7:20 am and instruction begins at 7:30 a.m.
2. Breakfast-In order to receive breakfast, students must arrive no later than 8:00 a.m.
3. Birthday invitations/treats----We mandate that students refrain from bringing in birthday food/drink. Students may bring in pencils, stickers, or donate a book to the library in the child's name commemorating the special day. We do announce birthdays over the intercom and they may be out of uniform on that day. We celebrate June, July, August birthdays on their half year mark. Because we are a small school and wish to maintain an inclusive environment, we ask that ALL invitations be mailed and gift giving take place outside school. A class list may be requested in the school office.
4. School uniform shorts may be worn M-Th. We ask that shorts NOT be worn to school mass on Fridays. On extremely hot days, we will grant students permission to wear shorts to mass and an email will be sent out to notify parents when this is the case.
5. Hairstyles that draw undue attention to the students will not be permitted. Highlights, braids and extensions must be of a color that occurs naturally in humans and not be in contrast as to draw undue attention to the student.
Temporary Office Assistant Opening
Approximately 15-20 hours a week. Contact Karen Bursey for more information.
Car drop off by 7:20 am and pick up at 2:10 pm
PreK and K students AND SIBLINGS will be dropped off and picked up on the West Broadway parking lot behind the school (Door 8). In the PM, parents will pick-up at door 8 as well. Please create a car line and we will walk your child to the car. If your PreK child does not come every day, the siblings will still get picked up at door 8 for consistency.
Drop-off: Grades 1-8 students will be dropped off on the Hubbard parking lot. Please enter the playground on Hubbard Ave. N. and exit the parking lot on 41st Ave. N. This will keep traffic flow going the same direction. Parents create a car line and drop off students closer to the gate. Students will walk to the corner of 41st and Hubbard Ave. and safety patrols will cross students safely. If you decide to walk your child to the front door of school, please park away from the car line. All students will wait at school door 5 and we will let students in school at 7:20 a.m. I will be outside supervising students at 7:15 a.m.
Pick-up: Students are picked up on Hubbard Ave. N. at 2:10 pm Parents will make a car line starting at 40 ½ Ave. N. from West Broadway OR along Hubbard Ave. N. The cars will alternate cars at the corner of 40 1/2 and Hubbard. Students will be waiting outside and staff will help direct students to their car. We ask that parents stay in the car. Please be patient and work together for a safe pick-up. The car line moves quickly as long as cars continually move forward in the line.
STUDENTS WHO ARRIVE TO SCHOOL AFTER 7:25 AM OR LEAVE SCHOOL BEFORE 2:10 PM--- PARENTS MUST SIGN THEM IN OR OUT AT THE SCHOOL OFFICE.

Art Adventure, PreK-8
Calling for Art Adventure Volunteers!
Please consider being a “Picture Person” in a classroom(PreK-8th grade)! We present Art Adventure, a program created by the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, to students in November and December. This is a great way to earn volunteer hours. This year’s theme will be American Stories. Classroom Picture People are not art historians or artists themselves, instead, you will lead students in conversations about art, listen as they describe what they see, talk about what the artist is hoping to express, how the art makes them feel. Any parent would be a great Picture Person!
The MIA provides amazing virtual and in-person training, a printed book for you to keep, and art reproductions for presenting. Training opportunities begin late September through October and November!
Please use SignUp to claim your spot. Contact Joanna Rosendahl with any questions 612-876-1929 (call or text), email: joannarosendahl@gmail.com Joanna is a volunteer and parent of a fifth grader and is coordinating Art Adventure this year.
