This is the perfect time to help foster your child's love of reading and keep

those skills sharp throughout the summer months.
The SMA Reading Committee has put together lots of ideas to help you

have a fun, enriching summer full of literary learning!

SMA Library Summer Hours!

Keep your child reading by visiting our school library this summer!
Beginning June 21, library hours will be Tuesdays and Thursdays 9 -11.

There are many places right here in town where you can connect
reading to real life experiences.
Take advantage of what our city has to offer while encouraging

reading along the way!

Here are other suggestions and ideas to build reading into everyday activities
while keeping your child engaged in reading all summer!


  • Watch TV with the sound off and closed captioning on.
  • Have your child read the directions explaining how to play a new game.
  • Have your child help with meals by reading recipes aloud while you cook together.
  • Take a book, return a book to a "Little Free Library" in town.
  • Check out or download an audio book for family car trips.
  • Set a summer reading goal.
  • Start a neighborhood/friend book club.
  • Read a book aloud to someone.
  • Read a book then see the movie.
