This Week in Review
What an awesome first week back to school after a hopefully rejuvenating break. Students have had another busy week working on their trickster tales in L.A., in math we started Unit 4- Addition, Subtraction, & Measurement , and in science students even started a new project to work towards changing the world for the better. We definitely started the new year off with a bang and are excited to continue to grow.
Science
After completing our Science District Assessment early in the week we began to explore and research for our upcoming project. The students observed videos, images, and statistics about different natural disasters, and decided that we could help people to be safer during these events if we created or designed safety brochures.
Our hope is to lessen the number of people negatively effected by these occurrences.
Math
This week in Math we have been talking about large numbers. The students constructed a mat with one million small squares inside of it. We have been talking about jobs where you would to know very large numbers. Talking Point- Who do we know that works will large numbers at their job? How do my parents use Math in their job?
Language Arts
In class, we have been busy modeling hooks from Trickster Tales we have read, and writing our own Trickster Tales using Texas animals and plants.
Talking Point: Ask about their Trickster Tale-who are the characters, who's the trickster, how did they trick the other animal?
Over the break, student's homework was to ask you what your favorite book was. Almost every student told me a book. It was great hearing about these books! But I still need some titles for a few students! It is my goal to get them to read your favorite book so you have a conversation with them. If you have your favorite book at your house or could get it at the library please let me know. I will be getting the rest of the list on my own and can really use your help!
