2019 NASAFACS Summer Conference Highlights
The 2019 NASAFACS Conference was held in Des Moines, Iowa April 30- May 3. Thirty-one attendees began the Tuesday afternoon meeting at the Embassy Suites by sharing state updates followed by an evening of tapas and conversations. Partner updates were shared throughout the week and we utilized nearby Des Moines Central Campus for some of our meeting space.
The week was dotted with informative presentations from Count the Kicks, Iowa Pork Council & Ag Literacy Foundation, Meredith Publishing, World Food Prize and Iowa State University. Tours of Meredith Publishing and their garden, the World Food Prize Building and Iowa State University provided us with some context for the work they do and helped us see how we might connect our programming and students to the work of families, nutrition and agriculture in meaningful ways. More importantly, we broke into our committees to review our Strategic Plan and make goals for the coming year. We ended the week with a round-table of topics and shared ways we connect with Perkins V, work-place learning, credentials, etc.
We want to thank our many partners who went the extra step to help sponsor our conference in so many ways – from meals and snacks to swag and more. A special thank you goes to Goodheart Wilcox, Iowa Pork Producers, WindowsWear, Realityworks, MyBodyModel, Everfi, Iowa State University, Visualz, The CCFCS, FCCLA, and the Home Baking Association.
