Christ Child Academy Newsletter
December 5, 2019
From the Desk of Mr. Ruedinger
The Advent season is a wonderful time to renew our faith and enrich our spiritual journey as we prepare for Christmas. Whether your family attends weekend Mass regularly or not, the beginning of the liturgical calendar is a great time to renew your relationship with Jesus. The teachers do an excellent job at CCA of sharing and kindling the faith in your children and attending Mass on the weekends goes a long way in supporting what we do in school.
We will be attending Mass two times next week. Monday, December 9 in honor of The Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin and on Tuesday, December 10 for our regular school Mass. Church clothes are required for both days! Please join us at both of these Masses.
The midpoint of Quarter 2 is Monday, December 9. Mid-Quarter 2 grades will be available to view on-line on Power School for grades 4 – 8 on the morning of Thursday, December 12.
On Friday, December 20, we will have our traditional Christmas spaghetti lunch for all of our students and staff. If your child does not wish to eat spaghetti, please send a cold lunch with him/her on that day. This has become a favorite of the students as they eat with their buddies and listen to Christmas music; while the teachers serve, eat with the students, and help clean up. This is a great way for our CCA family to come together prior to the Christmas break.
Also on Friday, December 20, we have early dismissal at 1:00 pm (with busing). Please be prompt in picking your child/children up that afternoon. School will resume on Thursday, January 2nd.
We received the following thank you from Noreen Gartman of the St. Peter Claver Food Pantry. "Once again, I have to say a big thank you to all the students, parents and teachers for donating the huge amount of food and personal hygiene items to the food pantry. It comes at a time when the shelves in the food pantry look kind of empty. Your generosity is always greatly appreciated!"

The Surprising Benefits of Going to Church
As parents of students at a Catholic school, you already understand the importance of Faith and religion in the development of your children. At CCA, we do an excellent job of teaching the Catholic faith and living it's lesson daily. The best way to support what we do in the classroom and further enrich your children's faith is to attend Mass each weekend. For the many families that make this a powerful family habit, I applaud you for making this a priority and reinforcing what we do daily at our school. If your family is not a regular attendee of weekend Mass, I encourage you to rediscover the many benefits of attending as a family.
Here is a great article regarding the benefits of attending church.
Standards Based Grading
During this school year, Christ Child Academy will be transitioning from a traditional grading system to standards based grading system, which will go into effect for the 2020-2021 school year. The Archdiocese of Milwaukee has strongly recommended that all schools move to this reporting framework.
As we proceed through this transition over the next year, please know that our goal of academic excellence remains our priority. These "best practices" will enable parents to fully understand where their child is academically while at the same time motivating students to become life-learners.
The Parenting Guide to Standards Based Grading will provide valuable insight during this transition. Additional information will be coming in the following weeks.

On Saturday, December 28th, Christ Child Academy will be hosting a very Special New Year's Bingo Event. This one afternoon event is a significant fundraiser for our school - please read through to find out how you can help.
The event is open to the public and entry tickets are $10/person. Each ticket allows the guest entry, all you can eat food buffet and entry into door prizes.

Over the last couple of years this event has spread throughout the bingo community and it is known as one of the favorite events of the year. It is by far our largest crowd of the year.
