Arrival Protocol

Early Arrival (before 8am)

  • Students will be dropped off at the front drive (Shadowbend Pl) Early arrival students will start in the gym then when the gym is full overflow students will start lining the main hallway

  • In the hallway, students will sit 4 tiles apart

  • Students will only be allowed to read, complete homework, or sit silently prior to 8 am.

  • Students will line up in their LC lines. As long as they are wearing a mask they can be within 6 feet of each other.

Walkers/Bikers/Car Riders

  • 5th grade students will enter through side double doors (by orchestra), 6th grade students will enter through the double doors on the 6th grade side of the school and report straight to the gym

  • Students must sanitize their hands as they enter the building

  • Doors will be propped open so entry will be touch less

  • Car Riders - will exit their vehicle on their own. Staff will not be opening doors for students. Teachers will greet from a distance with masks on.

  • Bike Riders - Students will be encouraged to space out bikes as much as possible. When locking up bikes students will socially distance from others who are at the bike rack

Bus Riders

  • Bus riders will enter through gym doors on the 6th grade side.

  • Students must sanitize upon entering the school

Dismissal from Gym

  • Students will be dismissed from the cafeteria at 8:10 and report to their homeroom class

  • 6th grade students will take their instruments with them to homeroom, and 5th grade students who play Trombone, Baritone or Tuba will take their instruments to the band hall. All other 5th grade students will take their instruments to their classroom.

  • Once students are in the classroom, teachers will have autonomy on what students can do until school officially starts.

Overflow Plan

  • If the gym exceeds the allowed number of students, students will sit in their respective grade level hallways, sitting 3 to 4 tiles a part until 8:10 am.

Breakfast Protocol

  • Upon arrival students will report to the buyer line to purchase breakfast.

  • Students will eat breakfast at the tables in the cafeteria. Students will NOT be permitted to take breakfast to classrooms.

Transition Protocol

LC Transitions

  • Students will line up in their classrooms standing arm’s width apart.

  • The two classes that are not across from each other will line up in the hallway

  • The next class will then go directly into the next teachers classroom.

  • Hallways with more than one LC will slightly stagger the transition schedule so both LC’s are not in the hallway at the same time.

P.E. Transitions

  • Students will keep a normal transition for P.E.

  • Students will need to bring water bottles to PE

  • 5th grade goes to PE by PLC, 6th grade goes to PE by LC. Schedule reflects that 6th grade does not come to PE as one hallway for 6th grade. Example: 6-3 & 6-5 go to PE together to limit the numbers in the hallway.

  • Students will sanitize hands entering and exiting the gym. When students enter the gym they will go to a designated spot that keeps students 6 feet apart from one another.

BAMO Transitions

  • BAMO teachers will coordinate with each other on dismissal times.

  • For example, if BAMO period is over at 3:10, art would dismiss at 3:09, band at 3:10, and music at 3:11. Orchestra will dismiss at the regular time since they are coming from a different direction. Students should be either coming or going so if at all possible they won’t pass each other in the hall. Student’s will not wait in front of BAMO classrooms since those classrooms will be clear of students - students would be sent at the start of their class time to alleviate congregating in the hallway.

  • When preparing to transition to BAMO, core teachers will make one line for all BAMO students. Orchestra will be at the front of the line, then music and art, and then band. This provides the ability for students to come down the hallway and exit. Then, teachers will report to the main hallway to monitor students.

  • BAMO teachers will need to be sure to receive students on time so students are not waiting in the hallway.

Classroom Protocol

STUDENTS WILL NEED TO SANITIZE BEFORE ENTERING AND EXITING CLASSROOMS EVERY TIME.

  • To prevent interaction at the water fountains, students are allowed and encouraged to carry a water bottle with them to class. Water bottles need to have a lid that closes completely. Cups/Tervis/YETI’s with a lid are not allowed. Metal water bottles will not be permitted. Non-metal water bottles work best since they do not sweat and are not noisy.

  • Masks will need to be worn at all times. Teachers will make every effort to social distance students. When student classroom numbers are too large prohibiting spacing students 6 feet apart, masks will be required.

Restroom Protocol

STUDENTS WILL NEED TO SANITIZE BEFORE EXITING THE CLASSROOM TO GO TO THE RESTROOM.

  • Teachers in the 5-1 and 6-1 hallway will split each block into 15 minute increments and agree to only send students to the restroom during their designated time.

  • For hallways with two LC’s you will have to coordinate with each other and split the times into 10 minute increments.

  • When sending students to the restroom, do not send more than two boys or two girls at the same time.

  • In case of a restroom emergency occurring outside your designated time frame, communicate with the appropriate teacher before sending your student to the restroom to assure safety.

  • When designating your 10 or 15 minute blocks, go by the homeroom class instead of the teacher. For example, Mrs. Berg’s homeroom class will go during the first 15 minutes of class regardless of which room they are in.

Lunch Protocol

Lunch Procedures

  • Teachers will escort students to and from lunch and recess.

  • Students will sit down at tables FIRST before being dismissed to the buyer line.

  • Four to five students will be seated at a table.

  • Student seats will be marked, and assigned seats will be given.

  • Students must wear a mask unless eating.

  • Two students may enter the restroom at a time.

Cleaning Procedures

  • About 3-5 minutes before the end of each lunch, students will line up along the wall.

  • Custodial staff will quickly sanitize tables.

  • There will be sanitation stations at each entrance of the cafeteria.

Lunch monitors will also stand at the back doors of the cafeteria to help with sanitizing students' hands as they go out to recess.

Recess Protocol

Equipment will be cleaned after each recess. Each LC (cohort) will have an assigned outdoor area. Each area will have suggested activities they can participate in or they can talk with friends or read a book.

Equipment Cleaning Procedures:

  • At the start of the day, P.E. will take the balls for each recess area, clean them with Quat 256, and place them in a new garbage bag. They will also spray some Quat 256 in the bag. With the garbage bags will be four pairs of gloves and paper towels. After each recess, teachers will put on the gloves and use the Quat 256 and paper towels to clean off the balls for the area they are in and return them to the garbage bag so they are clean for the next recess.

  • When Lining up at the end of each recess, teachers will have their names on a sign, and they will line their students up at their station. For example, if a class is on the soccer field, that is where they will line up to either go to lunch or back to their classroom.

Safety Procedures

In case of an emergency, text or call Nurse Nell, and she will come to recess. Bring students to the doors by the band hall. If they are unable to walk, please indicate that when contacting Nurse Nell, and she will bring the wheelchair.

1. Basketball and Four Square Courts (Face Mask Optional)

PE

  • Students must wear a mask and social distance as much as possible.
  • Some activities may be to strenuous to do while wearing a mask. So there will be times during PE that masks are not worn. In this case, the student will keep his/her mask on until they step on to the court/field and then remove the mask. When the activity is complete, they will need to put their mask back on.
  • Students will be expected to sanitize hands upon entering and exiting the gym.
  • Tennis shoes must be worn in PE. No high heels or sandals are permitted.
  • Students must go to their assigned spot in the gym upon entering and exiting the gym.
  • If a student needs water during PE, we strongly encourage them to bring their own plastic water bottle.

Library

  • Students come to the library in rotation with PE. Schedule coming soon.

  • Classes enter from their grade side right hand door which should be propped open.

  • Teachers will help students sanitize hands as they enter. If a previous class is still in the library, please wait in the hall. Desks must be Quat sprayed before students can enter.

  • Students will sit in library one per table for social distancing. Masks should be worn.

  • Technology: We are still working out whether or not students will have devices to bring with them from class, if there will be any available in the library, or some other way to let them have access to technology while there. If not, students should plan to bring their Lang Arts (reading and/or writing) notebook and their own pencil.

  • Check outs will be through Destiny Discover. Books placed on hold prior to class will be distributed during library rotation or dropped off at the student's homeroom teacher’s classroom if they will not visit the library for a while.

  • If a class is waiting to enter the library, teachers will pick up, and students will leave the library exiting through the opposite grade level doors. If no class is waiting to enter, they may exit through their grade side door. Students must sanitize hands as they are leaving the library.

  • Students may not be sent to the library for quick check outs during the day

  • All library books are returned to blue cans located outside each library door. Books are quarantined for 3 days before they are checked in and re-shelved.
