The First Crusade
What: started as a widespread pilgrimage (France and Germany) and ended as a military expedition
When: it lasted from 1096 to 1099
Who: Roman Catholic Europe to regain the Holy Lands taken in the Muslim conquests
Where: near the east( Palestine area)
Why: the Muslims took the holy land and the Christians wanted to fight for it and take it back.
Result: decisive crusader victory
The Second Crusade
What: second major crusade launched from Europe
When: it lasted from 1145 to 1149
Who: Christians and Muslims
Where: Iberia, near east.
Why: it began in response to the fall of the county of edessa
Result: Decisive Muslim victory in the Holy Land
The Third Crusade
What: also known as kings crusade
When: lasted from 1189-1192
Who: Christians and Muslims
Where: near east
Why: to reconquer the holy land from Saladin
Result: Crusader military victory.
