News from Mrs. Mankin
Dear Bulldog Families,
At an HSE School Board work session yesterday, Dr. Bourff made a recommendation for preK-4th grade to transition to Phase 3 of our HSE Operations Plan on Monday, October 5th. The recommendation follows the City of Fishers COVID-19 Mitigation and Activity Guidance for schools. The Board approved this recommendation 4-3. Students will be returning to school Monday-Friday beginning on the 5th. Families will still have the option to have their students attend school virtually during this phase.
We continue to update our safety protocols as we get new information and guidance from the Fishers Health Department and our school corporation. Please be sure to review the updated information regarding masks/face covering as several things have changed (also sent as a Skylert).
Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Lori Mankin, Principal

Enrichment Lessons - Tuesday/Thursday Highlight
We had more NBE Bulldogs participating in afternoon enrichment lessons last week, and we would love to see these afternoons grow in numbers even more! Mrs. Lee is recruiting all of our kid scientists to join her on Tuesday and Thursday for science provocations at 1:30. Over the past few weeks, we have learned that scientists look for stuff/make observations, may work at a museum, make and share observations, ask questions, and make connections. We explored our wonderings about bees, hummingbirds, cicadas and praying mantises. What should we explore next? Email Mrs. Lee at kelee@hse.k12.in.us this weekend and share what you are wondering about.
Yesterday we learned about backyard insects from a pair of brother and sister scientists. They shared videos, pictures, and research about cicadas and praying mantises. On Thursday, one of our kid scientists will teach us chemistry from his at-home science lab. What questions do you have for this kid scientist?
Enrichment Lessons - Wednesday Highlight
Don't forget about the Connor Prairie enrichment sessions:
- Wednesday, Sept. 23, we will discover details about Conner in his pioneer life.
- Wednesday, Sept. 30, we will discuss how he changed, what he learned, and what we can learn from him.
Mrs. Murch (Conner Prairie teacher-in-residence) and Mrs. Gibson (Teacher Development Specialists at NBE) will plan and Mrs. Gibson will facilitate the k-2 Zoom meeting to notice and wonder/inquiry-based learning. Grades 3-4 will be able to join both Mrs. Murch and Mrs. Gibson via Zoom to read texts, maps, photos, and letters for inquiry on the times of 1820. In the end, we will have time for a virtual fieldtrip where the students can ask questions of the staff about life and learning in 1820.
1:00-1:30 is best for K-2, 2:00-2:30 is best fit for grades 3-4 for this study.
1:30-2:00 is for any student in K-4 and may not directly tie to the study of Fishers every week.
