Message from Mrs. Burns
This Tuesday is International Dot Day! This special day celebrated in schools around the world is inspired by the children's book The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds (click title for read-aloud). Our students will be involved in activities during their enrichment classes this week to celebrate International Dot Day. The Reynolds Center writes, "International Dot Day, a global celebration of creativity, courage and collaboration, began when a teacher introduced his classroom to Peter H. Reynolds’ book The Dot on September 15, 2009. The Dot is the story of a caring teacher who dares a doubting student to trust in her own abilities by being brave enough to “make her mark”. What begins with a small dot on a piece of paper becomes a breakthrough in confidence and courage, igniting a journey of self-discovery and sharing, which has gone on to inspire countless children and adults around the globe."
This simple story has a powerful message about what it takes to make your mark! As we celebrate International Dot Day this week, we will have opportunities to inspire our students to encourage others, to express creativity, and to embrace new challenges too!
Our parents can take part in this experience as well by...
* talking to your child about a time you had difficulty learning something new, but with practice and time, it got easier.
* encouraging your child to share how he/she feels when asked to do things they don't feel good at and sharing a story about a time when you had to work through challenges.
* helping your child identify the things they are good at and how they can use their strengths and gifts to encourage or help others.
* encouraging your child to share how they want to make their mark in the world!
We're looking forward to making our mark this week at W.T. Lewis! Go Bulldogs!
