Winners of the 2016 Caldecott Awards!
The Caldecott Medal is awarded annually by the American Library Association to the most distinguished picture book for children. The 2016 winner is Finding Winnie: The True Story of the World's Most Famous Bear by Lindsay Mattick; illustrated by Sophie Blackall. Finding Winnie is a true account of the friendship between a soldier and the real bear who inspired Winnie the Pooh.
Caldecott Honor Books: Trombone Shorty by Troy "Trombone Shorty" Andrews, Waiting by Kevin Henkes, Last Stop on Market Street by Matt de la Pena, and Voice of Freedom: Fannie Lou Hamer by Carole Boston Weatherford.
All of these books have been ordered for the RES Library!

Louisiana Young Readers' Choice Award
3rd - 5th grade students that read 3 or more titles off the 2016 LYRC Award list were invited to vote for their favorite book on real voting machines provided by the LA Secretary of State. Around 60 students voted on January 20th, and our winner was Elvis and the Underdogs. We had a blast!
