English Syllabus Focus - Multimodal Texts

The Literacy Shed

The Literacy Shed is home to a wealth of visual resources that I have collected over my 10 year career as a primary school teacher. (Multimodal texts)
The aim is to provide high quality resources that can be used in stand alone literacy lessons, can form the basis for a whole literacy unit or can support literacy units that you already have in place. With the many book based activities I would advocate using the book alongside the digital resource.

Software Review - Creating Multimodal texts

Photostory 3 - Digital Storytelling
This is a wonderful piece of software which is a free download for PC computers and available on the eT4L and DEC computers. The software renders your photos, text, audio, music, transitions, effects and imagination into a short movie to tell your message or ideas.
User guides are available through the onscreen help or a visual user guide is available at :- www.jakesonline.org/photostory3.pdf‎

Web 2.0 Tools
A Web 2.0 tools allow users to interact and collaborate without downloading software. Many require registration / accounts and are frequently blocked for students.
Voki
Voki is a Web 2.0 tool that creates a speaking AVATAR. No account or registration is required and these are great for engaging students in technology and expressing ideas or knowledge. An excellent tool for Blogs or Wikis - have students use a Voki to retell their learning from a weekly lesson or concept.
