Newsletter week 8, Term 4 2022
Term 4 Week 8 - 9th December 2022
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Tena Koutou, Talofa, Namaste, Hello and Greetings
Another year has just zipped by here at East Gore School. This is the last newsletter for the year.
Unfortunately, we are farewelling Sarah Gilbert at the end of this year. Sarah has been offered a promotion and is joining One School Global as Campus Principal in 2023. Sarah has brought a lot to East Gore this year with her curriculum knowledge and ideas. She also did an amazing job stepping into the Principal role while I was on sabbatical. We wish Sarah all the best in 2023 with her Principalship.
Mrs Hannah Coyle will be stepping into the Deputy Principal role for 2023.
With this said, I am able to announce the new appointments to teach in our school in 2023. We are very excited to have Hannah McLeary and Aleigha Butcher Bell join us. Hannah joins us from Tapanui and Waikaka Schools this year and is bringing some great ideas with her. Aleigha is a recent graduate from Otago University and is very excited to have her own class. She is full of energy and looks forward to meeting her students.
Our classes and teachers for 2023 are:
Room Kauri (New Entrants) - Miss Riley Kaio
Room Totara (Year 1, 2) - Miss Hannah McLeary
Room Puriri (Year 2, 3) - Mrs Hannah Coyle
Room Rimu (Year 4, 5) - Miss Aleigha Butcher Bell
Room Rata (Year 5, 6) - Mrs Treana Morton
Release Teacher - Mr Richard Sutherland
On Monday 12 December, Hannah and Aleigha will be joining us at East Gore and we will be spending some of the day in our new classes getting to know who is in our room and their new teacher. This is a chance for parents to pop in and say hello as well.
Thank you for a wonderful year, we are very lucky to have such a supportive community of everything we do here at East Gore. We are looking forward to 2023 and all the exciting things it will bring.
Have an amazing and restful holiday break and we look forward to seeing you in the new year.
Meri Kirihimete (Merry Christmas).

School Reports
This report is a snapshot of your child's learning and progress throughout the year. Teachers always enjoy seeing the progress all student have made during the year and we hope you are proud of your child's efforts as well. Overall the results from all students are very pleasing within Literacy (Reading and Writing) and Mathematics. This is a great reflection of the engaging programmes the teachers are putting together and mahi your child has done within these subject areas.
Final Assembly
During the assembly our junior and senior students will perform an item along with our kapa haka group. We will present book prizes to students from all age groups before we farewell our Year 6 students for the last time.
This assembly is held at the Grace Church hall on Hamilton Street.
We will start this assembly at 6:30pm and would like all students to be in the hall by 6:25pm.
We look forward to sharing this occasion with our students and whanau.
Looking Ahead to 2023
Over the last couple of years with Covid, limiting parents onsite and changes of staff, we feel we have lost contact with some of our families and we are working on ways in 2023 to get to know all of you again.
To start the school year, on Tuesday 31 January, teachers will be available to meet with parents and students. We are calling this day a 'Catch Up & Connect' where parents can tell us anything you think the teacher needs to know to support your child in the classroom next year. This could be around their learning, friendships or the things they are excited about.
We will open our booking system for this in late January so you can book a time to meet your child's teacher that suits you. Teachers will be available from 8:30am - 3:30pm to try and cater for our working parents.
All students will start on Wednesday 1 February in their classrooms.
