Broad Street Update

September 1, 2021 - First Week Update

A message from Ms. Alexander, Principal

Dear Parents/Guardians,

I hope you are enjoying the unexpected day off. As a result of today, ALL students are going to come to school tomorrow. See below for more details.

In addition, starting on Tuesday, September 7, the governor's mask mandate will be in effect -additional information is included below.

Stay safe and I look forward to seeing ALL students tomorrow!

Schedule for Thursday, September 2

With today’s school cancellation due to weather, we are adjusting our planned staggered start for primary students. ALL STUDENTS will now report to school tomorrow, September 2nd. We will still have off on Friday, September 3rd and Monday, September 6th for the Labor Day weekend. All students will again return on Tuesday, September 7th.

Health & Safety Update - Masks

As shared in Dr. Leidy’s message last evening, the Pennsylvania Department of Health issued a mask order yesterday for all Pennsylvania schools. The order states that all students, staff, and visitors at a school must wear a face covering indoors, regardless of vaccination status. All Mechanicsburg Area School District schools and programs will follow this masking order. The order will take effect beginning with our return to school from the Labor Day weekend on September 7th. A few notes regarding this order:

  • Masks remain required on all district transportation
  • Individuals may remove masks when outside
  • Individuals may remove masks when engaged in physical education activities
  • Athletes may remove masks when engaged in their activity

More information about the order is available at PA Mask Order 8-31-21. If you have questions regarding specifics of how your child will be impacted by the order, please contact our main office.

Health & Safety - Additional Mitigation

I will take this chance to remind you of the best mitigation strategies to support our schools continued health. First, if eligible and able to receive a COVID-19 vaccination, please get one. If you need assistance in finding a location to obtain one, please visit https://www.vaccines.gov/. We also have a link to this page within the “Support Center” on our district website. Second, please continue to complete daily health monitoring. Anyone with symptoms of an illness should remain at home. A “Daily Symptom Checklist” and our “Health Monitoring Tool” are both available on our website by clicking on our “Back to School 2021-2022” page (www.mbgsd.org).

Back To School - Thursday, September 7

Next Thursday is Back-To-School Night. Teachers will hold 2 sessions. A face-to-face session will be held from 6:00 - 6:30 and a second session will be held via zoom and start at 6:50 pm. Additional information will be sent out later this week and your child's teacher will provide you with a zoom link next week.
