NC General Assembly is NOW in session!
The long session began Wednesday, January 14, 2015 with mainly ceremonial activities. Tim Moore of Kings Mountain is in line to become Speaker of the NC House. He has indicated that the legislature will be looking to 'help' the teachers on the upper end of the salary schedule.
Our local representatives are Speaker Tim Moore, Rep. Kelly Hastings, and Sen. Warren Daniel.
As always, NCAE will keep you fully up to date with all the comings/goings/news from Raleigh!
Bill to aid retirees who return after six months
Right now, many retirees who come back and work in extended interim positions are limited to how many HOURS in a month they may work. Sadly, this has been affecting health insurance for these people IF they go over these hours.
The NCGA is looking to correct this situation in this session. We will keep you informed!
The End of the EOG?
A state task force has recommended an end to the End of Grade tests in grade 3-8. What will replace the EOGs? Attached is an article concerning this issue.
10 POINT GRADING SCALE
Next year, North Carolina will implement a 10 point grading scale to replace the current 7 point scale. The State School Board approved this measure last week. It will go into effect 2015-2016 school year.
Guess what?
There seems to be NO correlation between Standards 1-5 and Standard 6 for teachers? At a task force meeting last week at DPI, that was the consensus of those gathered. So WHAT does Standard 6 mean? Good question! Again, we are continually working on this issue!
