Brazos Valley District
June 2020 Newsletter
From the District Chair
1- Since our last District Newsletter, the District lost a tremendous Scout, Scouter, Vigil Member and Friend with the passing of Charles Brown. Charlie did a lot of things for the Scouting community and the Scouts. We have a tendency to focus on the Birth Date and the Passing Date and skip over the “dash”. Let’s remember the “dash” that Charlie filled with his life and friendship!
2- Brazos Valley District Recharter was submitted to Council on May 29, 2020. If your YPT was not current, your name was removed from the recharter and you will need to complete and submit a new Adulty Application.
3- BRAZOS VALLEY DISTRICT AWARDS BANQUET UPDATE: We are looking to hold a recognition service to recognize our two District Award of Merit recipients and those volunteers that helped make the 2019-2020 Brazos Valley District year a memorable one. PLEASE KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR MORE DETAILS AS THEY BECOME AVAILABLE.
4- At the May District Committee meeting, the vote was taken for the new name of the District to replace “Weatherford 44 District”. The name selected was “Brazos Valley District 44”. Lonestar District 44 came in second and we will incorporate that name into some event in the 2020-2021 period.
5- 2020 Unit Service Hour Challenge. I would like to request all units to provide a minimum of 100 hours of Service to their Chartered Organization by June 30, 2020. We owe our Chartered Organizations a lot of thanks for hosting us and this is one way to show our appreciation. Service Hours have to be entered into the MyScouting.Org Service Hour section as they are not automatically transferred from Scouting apps. I am attaching a form that you can complete and send to my attention and I will ensure your unit is credited with the Service Hours. Let’s shoot for 100 hours in ½ Year in 2020.
6- Once District Meetings can start back up, we will be moving our Round Table (May 7, 2020); District Commissioners Meeting (May 12, 2020) and District Committee Meeting (May 12, 2020) to meet at Grace First Presbyterian Church, 606 Mockingbird Ln, Weatherford, TX. In the event that the Chartered Organization is not ready to open for public gatherings, we will have Zoom video conference ready to go! The OA will have a break out room on Zoom set up also during the Round Table date.

Message from our District Executive - Tim Caulkins
Brazos Team,
We are making a little progress each week towards our 90% goal by May 31. (+$195) since last Friday.
We need to be at $22500, or a difference of $4103 by the end of the month to reach this goal.
Our families are facing some critical times, as we are all aware of. Many that have given in the past have faced job down-sizing/losses. We need to ask, those that maybe have not given in the past, even one-time gifts will help us reach our goal. (Every little bit helps)
We still have units that did not have an adequate first FOS family presentation. Hopefully we can fix that soon, and get out to Courts of Honor and make face to face presentations.
I am going to send a message out to each unit leader over the weekend, to assist us with addressing this with their units to include again sharing the on-line giving link.
I know several have “changed Districts”, but they are still for the sake of this campaign are still part of the Brazos Valley accountability until the end of the campaign!
I know that together we can achieve this goal, even during this critical time. We just need to find creative ways to do so!
Thank each of you for all that you have already done and continue to do for Scouting!
Continue to Stay Safe!
Yours in Scouting,
Tim Calkins | District Executive
