Insane women
The Insane Women by Theodore Gericault, made in 1882. Gericault made the painting on the mentally ill. Mental aberration and irrational states of mind could not fail to interest artists against enlightenment rationality. Gericault believed that the face accurately showed character especially in madness and in the face of death. He mad many different studies of hospital inmates. The portrait the the Insane Women presented a very realistic representation of mentally ill women. The facial expression were accurately represented with the tense mouth and red rimmed eyes of suffering.
