A Wonderful December!

This month we had our Boys Mentoring Group, Basketball Club, and Somali Heritage Clubs begin! The Somali Heritage club is still accepting students (ask for Muna in the main office) and the Basketball Club is accepting students onto a waiting list. We are excited to offer these extracurriculars and create amazing experiences for our students!

This month we continued to deliver food through Northwest Harvest to many of our families, if you are in need of food please let our main office staff know, there is also the White Center Food Bank on 10829 8th Ave SW, Seattle, WA 98146 that is a constant source of free food support.

Our GLEA Baby Academy, a program that supports families in learning best practices to support their children had their graduation and will start a second cohort next year at Mt. View Elementary that any family can attend, if you would like to join for free reach out to Maggie Cruz at (prizes and food are included!):

We will be having our Family Multicultural Night this Thursday, December 19th at 5pm, we hope to see everyone there!

As we continue to move through the year please let us know what kind of engagement and events you would like to see, we are excited to continue to build our White Center Heights Elementary community!

We need 5-7 parent volunteers to sign up for our Mission/Vision Task Force. This will be a group of staff and family members that can lead the work to revise our school mission and vision, create a definition for a “WCH student,” and make decisions about the school mascot (change or keep it). Our School Store is Making Some Happy Students!

As you know we started a school wide economy this year to support students and recognize them making our community a wonderful place to be. All staff hand out Dolphin Dollars to students they see being safe, respectful, and responsible. Students can then spend their Dolphin Dollars on small toys, school supplies, and snacks. A hard working fourth grader who saved up a lot of dolphin dollars won the auction for a Kindle Fire Tablet and an extremely respectful and responsible third grader is currently in the lead for our auction for a Nintendo Switch! You can ask your students how many Dolphin Dollars they have, what they are saving up for, and what they did to earn their dolphin dollars. You can even let your student buy things from you for Dolphin Dollars (like a favorite snack or activity at home or on the weekend).
