Being Present
Dear Eagle Families,
We often spend time referencing the importance of rest and rejuvenation when we come to a break in the school calendar. While those remain important goals, I'm setting a new one for myself and invite you to join me. Last week, I was preparing to read a bedtime story with my daughter; a book I've read many times over the past few months. She handed it to me and said, "let's read about Honey Bunny and Sonny Bunny!" I didn't even recognize those names as the main characters in the story. It was in that moment that I realized I had been reading on autopilot, completely distracted by all the things in life that were swirling in my head. I read each night, I am physically "there", but I have not actually been present. My goal over the next two weeks and beyond is to be present; present with my family and loved ones and present with my self. Hopefully the rest and rejuvenation help me accomplish my goal!
The staff at Eagle Elementary wish you and your family a safe, healthy, restful, and rejuvenating Winter Break that allows you to be present with yourself and others.
Cheers to a Happy New Year!
Andrew
Notes:
Student Materials Coming Home: As we leave for Winter Break, and in order to be as proactive as possible, we are sending home some instructional items in your child’s backpack. We are not foreshadowing a move to all-remote; however, we do want your child to have these academic materials handy just in case. Please keep these materials in your child’s backpack in order to ensure their return to Eagle on Monday, January 4, 2021.
As always, Dr. Robison would send out communication about any potential change to our elementary school day.

Recess Reminders
Each child is expected to be suitably dressed for play outdoors. As the weather turns colder, each child needs a winter coat, hat, and gloves.. Snow pants, waterproof boots, warm gloves/mittens are required to be able to play in the snow. All children play outside except on rainy, icy, or very cold days (wind chill below the 10-20 degree range). Inside recess will be held on those exceptional days. A child who is well enough to come to school is well enough to go outside and play. Exceptions will be made if parent/guardians send in a note from the doctor stating that the child needs to stay inside. While each school’s recess safety protocol is unique to its campus and is available on school websites, all ZCS students honor the following safety code: We play together kindly and look after one another. We treat playground equipment with care, and share with others. We respect the adults who look after us. We always tell an adult if we need help resolving a conflict or if someone is injured. We stop and listen for directions when the bell/whistle sounds. We walk sensibly to our lines and quietly to our classroom
COVID TESTING
There is some new information on our radar which was confirmed through a conversation with the Boone County Health Department this past week. We want families informed so they can make the best decision for your respective family members.
Some COVID tests are not currently accepted by the Department of Health for return to school/work –
- The only negative result that will allow a child/staff member back into school is a PCR. (Per IN Dept of Health and Boone County Health Department, a negative rapid antigen test for SARS-CoV-2 is not acceptable for a return to school.)
- Schools can accept any antigen test if it comes back positive---We will treat as a positive case (Through this process, we will inform you of isolation/quarantine protocols as required by the state and county health departments.)
- If a family/household member has a PCR antigen test that comes back negative and the individual has no symptoms, then no other testing is necessary. Students can return to school.
- If symptomatic and rapid antigen comes back negative then a follow up PCR test is required due to the high rate of false negatives in the rapid antigen test.
Important NOTE: * If an individual has had a close contact with a positive COVID case, a negative test cannot shorten the quarantine period.
