HOLIDAY LUNCHEON
Students in Mrs. Maggie Sockwell’s class at Turkey Run Elementary prepared a luncheon for the staff members recently. The meal consisted of chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes, green beans, salad, rolls and cupcakes.
The students have been learning how to measure, how to prepare and how to plan and cook a simple meal. Each student had a chance to help with the different steps of preparing the meal. The class also presented the staff members with a personalized holiday card.
Preparing the meal was a way for the students to incorporate the skills that they’ve been learning with a hands-on activity.
Helping the students with the meal preparation were Mellissa Giloogly, Heidi Secuskie, Lindsay Garner, Donna Brown and Helen Kiger.
HOLIDAY BAKING
This was part of their final project. The class also made Christmas dog biscuits for all of the Veterinary Science dogs. They competed in a "Holiday Baking Championship". The final round was a holiday-themed cake.

NEW MUSIC PODIUM
Logan Smith built a new director's podium for band director Mrs. Ashley Brown. It has a handle and wheels for when it needs to be moved. Previously, Logan's dad and grandfather built the two platforms at Rockville Elementary School for the pep band. Fast forward to today, Logan, his dad, and grandfather worked together for the Parke Heritage podium.
The band department is so grateful to have Logan and his family continuing their support of the Parke Heritage bands.

ETIQUETTE TRAINING
For many years, the fourth grade classes at Turkey Run Elementary have been traveling to the Turkey Run Inn for a Christmas luncheon on the last day before Winter Break. The classes also visit the residents at the Clinton Gardens Nursing Home.
To help prepare them for this experience, retired fourth grade teachers Mrs. Sally Simpson and Mrs. Sue Harness held a social etiquette and dining workshop.
Mrs. Simpson and Mrs. Harness explained about what to expect when the class visits the residents at the nursing home. They also went through proper etiquette for the luncheon at the Inn. This included having the gentlemen pull the chair out for the ladies, putting their napkins in their laps, making eye contact with the waitress and conversation techniques.
