Principally Speaking

We have officially entered the time of year that we affectionately call "squirrel season." Squirrel season is the time between Christmas and Spring Break, where students start acting nutty. Not only do they get a case of cabin fever due to the cold and dreary weather, but they start looking for ways to burn off some pent up energy in some not so positive ways. We all know that our middle-level students lack a fully developed frontal lobe, which regulates decision-making. Combine all of that, and we get some squirrely behavior that may not commonly occur at a different time of year.

Please help us combat squirrel season. How can you help? Here are some ideas...

  • Plan some activities that include exercise for your students.
  • Encourage them to join a school or community club. Students can join a school club at any time of year.
  • Stay involved in what is happening in school. Send your students' teachers a quick check-in email and make sure your student knows you sent it.
  • Remind them that rumors should stop with them and not be passed on.
  • Reiterate that what sounds funny in their heads, might be better off not said.
  • AND last but not least, be kind to others.

Thank you so much for any help you can provide. Have an excellent weekend! It is a pleasure to serve you and your students.

PACE Now at The Middle School

Great news from our before and after school program PACE - our 5th and 6th grade students who attend PACE after school are now staying at the middle school! These students enjoy an afternoon snack, get time outside when the weather allows, or play games inside. They also get homework time, with staff available to help if needed! These students can stay with PACE staff until 6 p.m. after school.

If you are interested in having your child attend our fun (and convenient!) PACE program, please contact our PACE Director Mitzi Dennison at 317-745-2131 ext 4007 or mdennison@danville.k12.in.us. Thank you!

If your child is interested in track, he or she cannot have any F's on a report card for the third nine weeks, which is the grading period we are in now. Track is open to any 6th, 7th, or 8th grade girl or boy. For seventh and eighth grade football, seventh and eighth-grade volleyball and 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade cross country, the fourth nine weeks determine eligibility.

Nutrition Club

The Nutrition Club provides supplemental weekend food for children at North, South and the Middle School each Friday during the school year. We all struggle at some point. The goal of this program is to ease a bit of the struggle. You are welcome to sign-up at any point during the school year. The food will be sent home in a plastic bag that can fit inside a school backpack or be carried. You only complete one form per family. List all of your children that you would like to participate. Each child in your family will receive their own cinch sack or bag on Fridays throughout the school year. This program is the result of the generosity of the Danville community!
