Happy Friday, Lil Steamer Families!

Lil Steamer Families,
While our student engagement and participation rates have been very high, we do have some students who are currently lagging behind in regards to their academic coursework. As such, we are looking into summer school considerations for students who receive incompletes during remote learning. Thus, students may be required to attend summer school should there be significant missing work. If you have any questions about current remote learning, I urge you to speak with your child's teacher to develop a plan that best meets your family dynamic's needs.

I found an activity that might bring a little bit of fun to your homes. It’s called “Happy House Hunt.” You play hide-n-seek with your own token of joy.
Here’s how it works:
1. Choose a small object that symbolizes something happy.
2. One person in your family hides the object somewhere inside your home.
3. As you go throughout your day, someone will find the hidden object. Whoever finds it shouts, “I found peace!” (peace sign) OR “I found love!” (heart) OR “I found happy!” (smile rock or plush smile emoji) OR, say whatever your family has decided upon.
4. The person who finds it then hides it for others to discover.
5. The game can go on indefinitely.
Hopefully this activity will bring smiles to you and your loved ones.
Important Announcements from Mrs. Anton!
Any 4th or 5th grade student who has their Music class Recorder at home, please return it next week.
Band and Chorus concerts that were scheduled for next week have been canceled. We are very sorry to not be able to put on our end-of-the-year concerts, but the safety of our students and families is more important.

Dutch Days Floats!
With Dutch Days canceled for this year, the Schmaling Memorial Public Library is asking kids to make mini Dutch Days floats and email photos to the library!
McComBEE Buzz
I hope all is well with you and your families. I appreciate all the work
and patience you have had over the past month or so. I have attached my
annual McComBEE Buzz Reading Program for this summer. I want to send it
along so that you may include it in the e-learning documents as well as
any packets that are going home to elementary students. Due to COVID-19
we are not able to print these off in Springfield like we have in the
past but I am happy to assist in getting this to students. If you need
printed copies please let us know.
As you are all aware parents and students alike are looking for ways to
pass the time during the 'Shelter In'...please feel free to get creative
with the program and share on social media to target elementary aged
students.

UPSTART
Dear Families,
We have recently been told about a grant program in Illinois available to 4 year old children, the year prior to Kindergarten. UPSTART is a free in-home Kindergarten readiness program. UPSTART is done 15-20 minutes, 5 days at home with a parent/guardian and promotes a high level of parent/child engagement. UPSTART is in its 12th year and is in 15 states across the country. This can be used as a supplement to Fulton Blended Preschool and would be a great option for those 4 year olds who are put on our waitlist.
WHAT FAMILIES WILL RECEIVE
- A FREE Dell laptop for each family, software, and FREE internet (if you don't have it and qualify). If minimum usage is met, families will get to keep the computer after the program.
- Research-based, efficacious, award-winning reading and math/science instruction delivered to each child at home with a parent/guardian for 15-20 minutes daily.
- Weekly family support through a family education liaison to encourage the family through literacy knowledge, preparation for supporting a school-age child, and usage tracking. This personalized support is available in over 20 languages.
Illinois UPSTART will begin September 2020 and run until June 2021. Please see the attached flyer for information on how to register your child for this program. REGISTRATION IS ONLY OPEN UNTIL MAY 30TH, 2020.
