Go Fourth!
News & tidbits from 4th grade at HRRS
Monday, December 13, 2015 🎄 Last newsletter of 2015!
On Friday we enjoyed a visit from Santa Claus! He surprised us, gave out candy canes and took pictures with each child. We also did our first run through of the pageant. We will be practicing all week as well. A change from last week's newsletter is that our whole class will be dressed as carolers; Christmas colors, mittens, scarves, hats ear muffs, and so on. Hopefully your student already informed you; I hope no one had spent time or effort on a wise man costume as of yet.
Speaking of Christmas colors, the theme for this Spirit Friday, the 18th, is going to be Christmas attire; in particular, red and green. This is not a free dress day, but the more Christmas-y the merrier.
Christmas Pageant - Thursday, December 17th
The all-school Christmas Pageant will be held in the auditorium at 6:30. Please bring your child to school in costume by 6:00. The kids will be waiting in the classroom till it's time for their part. The evening will begin with the band performing, and the main event directly following. Please come and enjoy this lovely, musical event.
December 18: Las Posadas, Class Party, & Last day before Christmas Break
At lunchtime this Friday, there will be a big meal shared by the students. Our kitchen director, Lizbeth, is helping us organize this. We are asking everyone to bring something to share, whether a main dish, a side dish, salad, or perhaps drinks. (Families with more than one student may send just one dish from the whole family). Tables will be labeled for each grade so you (or your student) will know where to bring the dishes. You may start bringing food may to the cafeteria by 11:00am. Parents are welcome to stay for the lunch to help out, volunteer or just to enjoy the party. However, if you do plan on joining us, please drop me a note ASAP (with your child or email), to let me know in what capacity you plan on attending.
I am encouraged to report some improvement in our class' multiplication speed and accuracy. Instead of last week's 'one student' hitting our target goal, we now have five. That is wonderful. Hooray! Others have been making little improvements in their time as well. Keep up the good work. It has been interesting for the class to see the correlation between practicing at home and improving. The students who aren't doing their skip counting, flash cards, IXL, quizzing, etc. are not moving forward. I am still determined for our whole class to meet this goal! I will not be sending much home in the way of homework this week or over Christmas Break. However please, have your child keep up their reading and math facts practice so they can keep on (or start!) improving, and not regress.
I am working on our second field trip for mid- January. I wish I had the specifics already nailed down to share with you so you could already mark your calendars. I may send a "mini" newsletter with just those details out so you can plan accordingly. Please be ready to join us as we will be needing drivers like last time. We were actually close to canceling our planetarium trip because of a lack of drivers...
Have a wonderful break from school and celebrate Christ's birth with your family.
Merry Christmas!
