Professional Development Conference Requests
If you are interested in attending a conference please contact Office of School Counseling Services first. We will need to check availability of funds before you complete the Request to Attend Conference Form which is available on the Intranet. The link is below:
Once you complete the form, return it to our office. It would be helpful if you could ask your principal to pick up a portion of the cost. Generally we’ll pay registration (if budget allows) and your school can pay additional expenses. We will tell you that we have had a lot of requests and we’re running low on funds, but if Tony can make it work, he will.
Please let us know if you have any questions.

Workshop- "Resilience: The Biology of Stress and the Science of Hope"
“THE CHILD MAY NOT REMEMBER, BUT THE BODY REMEMBERS.”
Please join us and our community partners for a unique experience. We will be screening the movie, “Resilience: The Biology of Stress and the Science of Hope” three times over the next two months at various locations throughout Northern Virginia. This award winning film is for everyone: parents, community members, teachers, human service providers, doctors, and more! To attend, you simply need to be willing to help teach your child, a family you know, the community in which you live, how to become resilient in the face of adversity.
The film and panel discussion that will follow will teach you that an ACE (Adverse Childhood Experience) score:
•should be used as a tool to better understand family and community health needs •can empower a parent to make changes in their lives and for their children
•supports the need to interrupt cycles of abuse and neglect in order to have a healthier community
•is about teaching individuals to become resilient in the face of adversity

Leesburg Elementary
Leesburg Elementary’s Wellness Week took place in the week leading up to spring break. Each day of the week had a specific theme with fun activities and prompts for helping students and staff promote discussion of overall wellness during the stressful time of year leading up to SOLs, etc. There was a schedule of themes and activities. Please see the two photos below. This was the first Wellness Week at Leesburg, and I hope to grow the program for an even bigger impact next year!
Don’t Lose Your Noodle (pictured below): Each classroom was provided with a full set of pool noodle slices to use as stress-relieving fidget toys, which could be kept in the classroom or sent home. Each staff member also received a slice for their personal stress relief.
Stress-Relief Display (pictured below): Staff members were invited to share their favorite strategy for stress relief for a conversation-starting display in the main hallway.

Virtual Loudoun News-Cynthia Fillman
Our current term will conclude on May 19th and courses will close at midnight.
Registration for the upcoming Spring/Summer Term 3 ten-week session will also close on Friday, May 19th. Remember not to add students as late registrations unless you have gotten approval from Stacie Mininberg first. Be sure you log into the Virtual Loudoun administrative system so that you can review the registrations of your students to approve/deny. You can use the step-by-step directions in the VL Counselor Guide to Registration for guidance to complete this. If your school will be approving an Application for Reduction or Waiver of Fees, be sure you update the “Fee Amount” with that new amount, and if waiving the fee, add that information in the “Fees Paid Descr” field that Waiver of Fees is approved. Approved forms must be sent to Stacie.AhrensMininberg@lcps.org.
And don’t forget to scroll through the complete list of courses so you can be sure your student hasn’t selected multiple courses before you submit your approved registration.
And be sure to let Cynthia or Stacie know if you have any questions or unique circumstances. Thank you for supporting virtual learning opportunities for your students!
