Urgent Message from Pope Francis to Catholics of the World
Tonight: Mass for Peace Followed by Interfaith Candlelight Vigil
Greetings Everyone,
As the world continues to watch with shock and horror of the events unfolding in Ukraine, we ask ourselves what can I, we, do? It is in times like these that we turn to prayer with the hopes of finding clarity and direction. The purpose of prayer is not to convince God to take action, our God is one of peace and is already on the side of those who suffer. The role of prayer is for the people of the world to come to a deeper understanding of God's desire for our world, and provide us the courage to make this divine desire a human reality. The power of prayer is found in aligning people's hearts and minds creating a bond of solidarity that provides support with those who suffer and challenges each of us to work for justice.
In this time of great suffering and uncertainty, we all must pray. Pray for a conversion of hearts of those who have the power to end this conflict. Pray for those who are suffering and who have died, that their pain and loss will not be forgotten. Pary for us to beware of the facts of the situation and discern how we are called to take action. Prayer leads to awareness, establishes a spiritual connection with those who are suffering, and mobilizes people to action. In times like these, it is extremely important that we gather to pray together.
Tonight, members of the local Ukrainian community will be attending our 7:00 PM Mass which will again be offered for the people of Ukraine. Our Mass will end with us joining in the campus Interfaith Candlelight Vigil and Walk for Peace. Please make it a priority to gather tonight to be in spiritual solidarity with the people of Ukraine locally and globally.
