Outdoor Education
Fourth-grade students enjoyed bridging the gap between "indoor" and "outdoor" education during a recent outdoor education experience at Camp MacLean in Burlington, WI. Through the natural environment and resources of Camp MacLean, and the efforts of district teachers, students experienced learning and living apart from traditional classrooms. In addition to the curriculum, students experience enriching character and community building. At Outdoor Ed, students participate in several different activities including pond study, science studies, team building challenges, and the Skyway challenge high ropes course.

Girls on the Run
Close to 50 students at Half Day participated in Girls on the Run program.
According to Girls on the Run literature, GOTR is a national, non-profit organization that is dedicated to creating a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams.
Some of the lessons taught over the course of the program include Positive Self-Talk, Finding Balance, Empathy, Making and Being Friends, Communicating with Others, Working as a Team, Compromise, Gratitude, and Recognizing our Strengths.
The activity culminates with students joining in the PTO’s Run for D103 event.
Please visit the school's Facebook page or Google Doc folder for pictures of the activity.
State Fair
Fourth-graders got a taste of farming, agriculture, and industry when the Illinois State Fair simulated a visit to Half Day School. Students have been studying the history of their state. They collaborated on investigating our state's history and geographical features. Students popped popcorn, played with newborn chicks, planted seeds in a pretend field, and learned about the state government during the event.
Kelsey LaBelle shared, “The Illinois State Fair provides fourth-graders with an immersive learning experience that goes beyond what we do in the classroom. The event connects the world outside Half Day and provides a greater lens to all of Illinois and its offerings. The kids love it!”
Please visit the school's Facebook page or Google Doc folder for pictures of the activity.
Race Attracts 660
Close to 660 runners and walkers registered for the annual Run for D103 5K run/walk over the weekend. The PTO raised over $13,000 from the fundraiser, which goes to support school programs. Thank you PTO volunteers for all you put into this event! For pictures of the run/walk, please visit the district's Facebook page or the Google Doc folder.
