The weather may have ruined our Bike to School Day plans, but the forecast for next week looks warm and sunny: perfect timing for the Annual Belding Fun Run!
This is always a very popular event and a great time for all involved. In order to make it happen, we need at least 20 parent volunteers to direct runners along the route, keep them safe and of course cheer them on! If you can help out next Thursday afternoon, May 16th, please sign up below!
Vaccinations and School Physicals
to ensure CPS students are protected from all required vaccine-preventable diseases including measles — which is making a notable resurgence outside of Chicago where measles immunization coverage is low. While over 95% of our students comply with district vaccine requirements, a small proportion is still missing one or more of school-required vaccines. Vaccine-unprotected students bear significant risks and pose risks to others as well.
We strongly encourage families and students to schedule school physical and vaccination appointments before the start-of-school rush and well ahead of the October 15th deadline. Families can find a health center at https://findahealthcenter.hrsa.gov/.
As a reminder, all new students must provide proof of required immunization and health exams at the time of enrollment (including those who enter after October 15th). Currently enrolled students must also provide proof of immunization and exam at specific grade levels (Pre-K, K, 6 and 9) no later than October 15th each year.
Obama Foundation and Chicago Public Schools Civic Action Recognition Awards
I am very proud of our 7th and 8th grade teachers who have been reflective and growing in how to facilitate student inquiry and service learning! We're so proud of their work and inspired by the service learning our students do with these teachers. Each year their service learning units of study get better and better... they are very deserving of this honor. Congratulations to Denise Jones, Susie Lee, Janine Nelson and Sarah Sabo.
End of Year Parent Volunteers - International Festival
End of School Year Activities: The end of the school year is a fun and busy time at Belding. There are many special activities planned for almost every day during the final few weeks of school. Almost every day there will be a special activity for the children: field trips, assemblies, awards, class games organized by teachers, picnics, classroom service projects and presentations, etc.
Parent Volunteers: For the busy end of year we are asking parent volunteers and room parents to focus efforts on the Belding International Festival which is June 14. A large number of parent volunteers are needed for the Festival to donate food, lead activities, supervise displays and games.
In some previous years, parents have coordinated end of year parties for some classrooms. This year we are NOT asking room parents to organize end of year parties, There will be fun activities, but the teachers will coordinate those in the classrooms. WE NEED PARENT HELP for the International Festival. Your classroom teacher and room parent leaders will share volunteer opportunities for the International Festival and shifts of time when help is needed. Teachers have planned many special activities for the end of the year inside the classroom and school. Parents --we need all of your help with the International Festival! Many parent volunteers are needed to make that event a huge success.
