Governor's School for Entrepreneurs
Week 1
Hello Parents and Supporters of GSE!
We wanted to send you an update on all of the AWESOME things our E's did last week! When we refer to your Entrepreneurs, we call them E's for short! I'm sure you're following us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter - but we know that a personal touch sometimes makes all the difference! This week, we intend on adding more photos, and will continue to release videos very often!
A few of the big highlights were:
6/26 - Gerry James of the Explore Kentucky Initiative spoke to the E's about the importance of partnerships and networking. He emphasized how social media has helped him link the two - truly a great opportunity for the E's!

* Gerry noted that their website may be down for updates and redesign.
6/27 - Our E's completed Asbury's Challenge Course! We released an awesome video covering their experience on our Facebook page! We want our E's to be challenged both physically and mentally while they are here! Everyone had a great time!
Alli Truttmann, CEO of Wicked Sheets, spoke to the E's about customer relationships and discovery. Feel free to ask your E's about their customers (for their businesses) and what they know about them at this point!

6/28 - E's met a powerful guest speaker by the name of Shane Howard. Shane owns Custom College Recruiting. Ask your E about this experience for sure! Wednesday night, we went to Awesome Inc in downtown Lexington. Here, E's watched a pitch event similar in style to Demo Day. It was a great opportunity for our E's to really see what it is all about!

6/29 - E's participated in Breakout Games - another team building opportunity. We really want to emphasize that an Entrepreneur has NEVER been successful on their own - regardless of how good their idea may have been. Our E's are in a true collaborative environment and we want them to see the value in that.
Team Cornett came and spoke with each individual group concerning branding and identity for their businesses and products. Even though our E's aren't quit ready for that just yet, they walked away with some great ideas for next week!
Later Thursday evening, Super Soul Studios and Altelier VR brought VR to GSE! The E's loved playing with the devices and we had great conversation about how VR and AR are changing the businesses industry!

6/30 - We split up the teams and sent half to Louisville and half to Northern Kentucky. In Louisville, we visited First Build and Red e App. In Northern Kentucky, we visited Cintrifuse and Listnr. To learn more about these businesses, feel free to visit their websites below:

7/1 - We ventured to the Lexington Farmers' Market for true customer discovery and research. The E's asked customers questions concerning their businesses. I encourage you to ask your E's about their customers and what they have discovered over the last week!
Later in the day, our E's experienced Newton's Attic! Newton's Attic brought critical thinking and collaboration to the E's! Check out their website!

From an educational standpoint, E's are focused on project based and cross-curricular learning. Our methodology encompasses STEAM and STEM disciplines and hones in on true experiential learning. We aim to create a true experience - one that mirrors the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Kentucky and beyond. They are creating their own work and have complete autonomy over their progress. We provide them with the tools and they have been doing the work!
Here are some questions to ask for continued reinforcement of concepts when you speak to your E:
Tell me about your business/product.
What is your value proposition?
What problem are you solving? How do you know this is a problem? What is your proof?
Who is your customer? How do you know? What problems does your customer have? How do you know?
What kind of relationship do you plan to have with your customer? Will you reach them digitally? If so, how? Will you reach them in person? If so, how? How else will you reach your customer?
