New MidSouth Branch Opens at Hutchings

January 30 marked the grand opening of the MidSouth Community Federal Credit Union branch at Hutchings College and Career Academy. This branch is open to the public and employs several Bibb County students, providing hands-on work experience as part of the school's banking pathway.
"We're delighted to be here and to be able to make a difference," said MidSouth Community FCU President Roy Bibb.
Jamie Jordan, High Demand Career Initiative Program Manager for the Georgia Department of Economic Development, was the keynote speaker for the event. He said that partnerships like the one between MidSouth Community FCU and the District help develop a strong workforce and stimulate growth for the area.
"We have to see more of these in every industry we have in our state," Jordan said.
MidSouth Community Federal Credit Union members in the surrounding community are invited to conduct their banking business at the new location at 1780 Anthony Road. Membership is open to anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school within the credit union’s 13-county community charter. The branch hours are 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Community Partners Serve as 'Principal for a Day'

Earlier this month, community members had the chance to come into schools to serve as "Principal for a Day." Representatives from local businesses and other organizations signed up and were partnered with schools at every grade level.
This event gave stakeholders the opportunity to see what life is like inside our schools.
"I am truly amazed at how many hats you wear in your administrative role, and yet you still make time every day to greet your students one by one as they enter the building," said Georgia Doom sales manager Tiffany Baskerville to Hutchings College and Career Academy Principal Barbara Alston.
In addition to Baskerville, the District would like to thank representatives from the following businesses, organizations and agencies for supporting schools through this event: Tubman Museum, Warner Robins Air Logistics Complex, GEICO, Macon-Bibb Emergency Management Agency, Macon-Bibb County, MidSouth Community Federal Credit Union, Marco's Pizza, Krystal, Georgia Power, Trenz and Associates, Magnolias & Little Latina Girls of Mid GA, Greenbriar Neighborhood Association, Miss Black Georgia USA, Wesleyan College-First For Women, Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Georgia, Passport Education Services, Campus Clubs, Inc., OneMacon, Communities In Schools of Central Georgia, The Mentor's Project of Bibb County, Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce, WorkSource Macon-Bibb, Happy Talk Communications, Reclaiming Ground, Community Foundation of Central Georgia, Central Georgia Technical College, Bibb County Sheriff's Office, The Medical Center, Navicent Health, State Bank & Trust, Leadership Macon Alumni, First Choice Primary Care, Macon Bacon, AAA, Social-Ology, New Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church, Bibb Mt Zion Baptist Church, Infinity Network Solutions, Edgar's Bistro, Middle Georgia State University, Redeeming Hope Center, Healing Experience Ministries.

Pre-K Registration Coming Soon!

The Bibb County School District will open Pre-Kindergarten registration for the 2018-2019 school year February 26-March 9. All applications for the Pre-K lottery will be processed online through the District’s website. There are currently 836 Pre-K slots available to children who are 4 years old on or before September 1, 2018. Selection is based on a random computer lottery, and there is no cost to participate.
Students may attend Pre-K at their zoned neighborhood school or parents may choose to register them at one of four alternative locations: Northwoods Academy, Alexander II Magnet School, Burdell-Hunt Magnet School or Vineville Academy of the Arts. Transportation will not be provided to non-zoned schools and parents may only register their child for one school.
Westside Principal Honored, School Selected as Model School
“The Principal of the Year program recognizes principals that excel in educational leadership, resolving complex problems, developing self and others and community service,” according to a release from the GASSP.
Dr. Daniely has been principal at Westside for six years and has a doctorate in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University. She is also a graduate of Georgia College and State University and Fort Valley State University.
Under her leadership, Westside was recently chosen as a Model School by the International Center for Leadership in Education, which will mean Dr. Daniely will present at the Model Schools Conference in Orlando this summer. In addition, the school’s College and Career Ready Performance Index has risen 21 points since 2012, while the graduation rate has improved by 28 percentage points.
