Lockport City School District

December 2021 Points of Pride from Superintendent Bradley

The Kindness Project

The Interactive Media Class at Lockport High School brainstormed ways to promote kindness and support each other in and out of school. Students shared positive messages in email and social media to remind us of the good that social media can do and that it can be used for a positive message. Interactive Media is a 1/2 credit course at LHS focusing on the theory and practice of multimedia design and development across multiple media platforms. Students complete a variety of projects that benefit the school community through multiple media avenues.

My Brothers Keeper Family and Community Engagement Program

Lockport High School students in the Interactive Media class created logo designs for the Lockport City School District My Brothers Keeper (MBK) Family and Community Engagement Program (FCEP). Designs were presented, anonymously, to the MBK Advisory Council members who voted for the logo they felt would best represent LCSD's program. Sophomore Cayla Mendetta's design was selected. The purpose and focus of the MBK FCEP is to increase the academic achievement and college and career readiness of boys and young men of color by building respectful and trusting relationships between home, community, and school. Lockport City School District Peanut Butter and Jelly Drive

Lockport High School student council facilitated this year's district wide Peanut Butter and Jelly Drive. Each building collected jars of peanut butter, jelly, and fluff which were donated for distribution to local food pantries in Niagara, Erie, and Orleans counties. As a district over 2,500 jars of peanut butter, jelly, and fluff were donated.

Annual Toy Drive

DECA organized the annual Toy Drive at Lockport High School. The hundreds of toys collected were donated to the local Salvation Army for distribution to children in our community. The generosity, participation, and support of students and staff is appreciated. Dan Fiegel, Vice President of Community Service, coordinated the project and is pictured with the toys collected.

Christmas Extravaganza at Lockport High School

This year's Christmas Extravaganza, facilitated by Lockport High School Key Club with advisor Susan Long, was held Friday, December 17. Staff contribute new or very gently used items and students, regardless of need, are afforded the opportunity to "shop" for gifts for their family or friends. Key Club assisted with setup, break down, and room supervision. Key Club is a student-led, international, high school organization. Key Club members make the world a better place through service. In doing so, students grow as individuals and as leaders by answering the call to lead, summoning the courage to engage, and developing the heart to serve. In partnership with the local Lockport Kiwanis Club, LHS students are making a positive impact on Lockport schools and community.

New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Fall Scholar Athletes

At the end of each sports season, NYSPHSAA honors varsity teams and individuals that excel in the classroom. To receive Scholar-Athlete team recognition with a certificate, the team’s average GPA for 75% of the roster must be greater than or equal to 90.00. To receive Scholar-Athlete individual recognition with a pin, the individual must have a GPA of 90.00 or above. For the Fall 2021 season Lockport had 11 teams and 111 individuals qualify. Congratulations to all of the individual athletes and to the Boys and Girls Cross Country, Boys and Girls Golf, Boys and Girls Soccer, Boys and Girls Volleyball, Girls Swimming and Diving, Game Day Cheer and Girls Tennis teams on this amazing accomplishment!

2021 New York State School Music Association All-State Festival

Three Lockport High School seniors have been selected to participate in the 2021 New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) All-State Festival. Brianna Garcia (soprano) and Charles Baggett (bass) were accepted into the Vocal Jazz Ensemble, and Anthony Ruberto (tenor saxophone) was accepted into the Instrumental Jazz Ensemble. These students auditioned last spring, and their high scores earned them a place in the prestigious festival. Only the top musicians in New York State participate. Mr. Pacillo, Mrs. D'Angelo, Mr. Martin, Mrs. Dray, and the rest of the Lockport music faculty are proud of what these students have accomplished over their many years in the LCSD Music Department, culminating with this extraordinary opportunity.

2022 High School Honors Performance Series

Lockport High School instrumental students Charlotte Dumphrey and Paul LaGreca auditioned and were selected as members of the 2022 High School Honors Performance Series at Carnegie Hall, New York City, in February. Selected finalists rehearse and perform under master conductors and have the opportunity to meet young elite musicians from around the world. This is an exceptional honor for these students! Congratulations!
