PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
One of our wonderful student's, Joy Hatchell, did something really special recently. She travelled to Detroit to compete in the National Society of Black Engineers 45th National Convention with over 16,000 participants. Joy's team won with their Future City Model! We are so proud of you Joy! (See picture below).
I also want to give a shout out to our Speech and Debate teams. Our speech/theater took second overall under Mrs. Eanes direction and our debate team blew away the competition at the Lincoln-Douglas Debate Tournament. Mrs. Williamson really had them at their best. Of the top 8 performers in the competition, Lopez had 6 of those spots with Mitch Lutz winning the top spot and Chelsea Huber and Kathy He got 2nd and 3rd.
Our track students wrapped up their season with success as well. Our girls placed 3rd and 4th overall for the 8th and 7th grade but had some great individual success along the way. Rachel Maina won the district 400m and broke our school record. Kate Barrera won in pole vault as well. Campbell Pfeiffer won the 400m in the 7th grade and Ania Valdez won the 7th grade triple jump. Our 8th grade boys won the entire district meet 60 points ahead of the next team. Shaun Evans, Jahirey Calais, Giuseppe Sessi, and Carson Green were the district champs in the 4x100 relay. Giuseppe also won district in the 400m. Ikena Opara won in the triple jump and the high jump. Julius Calhoun won the discus. Giuseppe Sessi, Jadon Johnston, Trey Laurence, and Shaun Evans won the 4X200m relay. Very impressive. Congratulations!

LOPEZ PANTHERS LEAD, SERVE AND INSPIRE
Take the Lead and be Proactive. Being and having a mindset of taking the initiative will likely increase your success. It can be so easy to get in the mindset of the opposite of proactive which is reactive this this can lead to actions that do not sustain long-term success.
We can build on and work on a proactive mindset with our middle school students. Middle school students understand this concept. Here are areas you can focus on that will help you shift toward being more proactive (and thereby successful!):
Focus on what you can control.
Examples: Right now, you can control:
How many times you smile today.
How often you show gratitude and say “thank you.”
How much effort you exert at school.
How you act on your feelings.
Your honesty.
Whether you think positive or negative thoughts about yourself or others
You can only control yourself. You cannot control others. If your mindset is of others controlling you, ask the counselors for ways that you can gain more control of your thoughts and actions.
Prioritize.
Focusing on a couple of goals which will lead to better success than focusing minimally on lots of goals. Break the goals up into steps. Ex. This week my goal is…..and to attain that goal I need to…break it into daily activities.
Think through scenarios.
Focus on what might happen and create a plan. Plans can change, but considering the most likely scenarios in advance will increase your chances of being prepared. Ex: I go to a party with my peers and others are “vamping”. Plan your NO! If you can’t say no on your own- have an excuse lined up, blame it on -if my parents/teachers/coach found out I would have consequences.
