What's Buzzing at the Heights
Week 31: April 26-30, 2021
Message from the Principal
Dear Hornet Families,
Happy Week 31!
We had a busy week with Returning Students beginning to register online for the new year! We had 61% of our scholars that have successfully registered and saved their seat for next school year. I urge each of you to take 20 minutes and complete the online registration. For returning students, you will only need to upload your ID and a current utility bill.
Be sure to use a computer and Chrome as your internet browser. At the bottom left hand corner on each screen, you will need to add a check mark and save before moving on to the next page. If your child will not return to Horizon Heights, please send me an email: jhanse@sisd.net.
If you need help, please call the office and we can assist you, 937-7405. You can do it!

SEL Lesson.
This week our scholars will learn about the Responsibility. Responsibility is linked to school completion, lower antisocial behavior, positive health behaviors, and productivity. Responsibility emerges when youth have opportunities to take on increasingly difficult social obligations.
Attendance.
Every time your child is ABSENT, please submit a note explaining why they are absent. We must have a NOTE for every absence from either a doctor or parent.
PLEASE help us and continue to send in their doctor’s notes and absence notes to the following email address.
attendancehorizonheights@sisd.net
We are struggling to get all of the information on the notes for children to help excuse them. We have gone ahead and formatted a note to help you.
I am kindly requesting for families to use this form.
Visit this site to download, complete and send in a note for EVERY absence.

Warning Letters for Attendance.
Please check your email. Families with have been notified in writing for the children in danger of losing credit due to excessive absences. I sent out emails and made phone calls for those with Loss of Credit. We will continue to email and ask that you work to submit notes for absences.
Loss of Credit.
We will continue our Loss of Credit Tutoring. It will be offered Monday through Thursday. The Loss of Credit teacher will be in contact about the time and expectations. Please ensure that your child attends to regain their credit for the year. Children need to complete 3 hours to regain 1 day as per State law.
Together, we are BETTER!

Annual Blood Drive Campaign
In 2018, two of our Hornets took ill. They both required numerous blood transfusions. Our team jumped in to ensure these scholars and others in need knew that NO ONE FIGHTS ALONE.
Our two Hornets are now Ensor MS Eagles. This year, both have been dealt a hand that no child should ever have to face. Victor was hospitalized for over a month and again required many blood transfusions. I am so happy to report that his health has improved. Ensor Eagle Hailee has found herself fighting leukemia again. She is currently undergoing treatment and she needs our help. Let's show them that once we are family, we are always FAMILY!
Friday, May 7, we will sponsor our Annual Blood Drive to support these 2 former Hornets with the gift of life and help to save other lives. Join us in making this event a special one! Our last blood drive hit the mark with over 60 units of blood! Let's work together to smash this goal and let our students know that they are never alone!

State of the District Address
Dr. Espinoza shared all the reasons why we are an A rated District that has endless possibilities for all of our scholars and employees. It was a great presentation of the accomplishments that we have earned under his leadership.
Thank you Dr. Espinoza for your leadership and vision to continue to make #TeamSISD the best place to work and educate our future!
