Extra help on campus: College Tutors and Retired Teachers

The U.S. Congress provided financial support for districts and schools through the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) Fund to address the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

As we know too well, the pandemic has caused major disruptions in instruction in our students education. To help with this, the district hired numerous college tutors to assist with student interventions.

At WAES, we welcome:

  • Ms. Ford, supports Kindergarten Reading
  • Ms. Diaz, supports in K-2nd Reading
  • Ms. Cleto, supports 2nd-3rd Math and Reading
  • Mr. Valdez, supports 4th and 5th Math
  • Ms. Malveaux, supports 4th and 5th Math

*College tutors are supervised at all times by the classroom teacher and/or instructional coaches.

In addition, we have two retired teacher assisting our students. We welcome to WAES Mrs. Brown, who supports K-3rd Reading and Ms. Bazile, who supports 3rd-5th Math.

Lastly, we have a homegrown students/aspiring teacher, Mrs. Martinez that supports our kindergarten classes.

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact our front office.

Report Card Conferences

The 1st nine weeks report card will be ready by October 15th. Per usual, during the 1st nine weeks report card, all teachers will be holding conferences with you from October 18-30. Please be on the lookout for more information from your child's teacher.

Brighter Bites in October!

The Houston Foodbank through it's program, Brighter Bites, offers a box of produce to families enrolled at WAES. The distribution this month will take place on October 22 during dismissal. Be on the lookout for a special message the morning of each distribution day and then reply using the special code displayed near the carpool lane. Thank you for your patient and support as we continue to perfect this process.
