Principal's Corner

Mrs. Marie Collie, Principal

Mrs. Mauger's students in room 105 conducted a "Souper Bowl" food collection during the last week of January. The entire Durham Nockamixon Elementary student body was invited to bring in non-perishables which Mrs. Mauger's Class weighed at 148.25 pounds of food collected for the local pantry. Additionally, all students were encouraged to wear their favorite team jersey to school on Friday, January 31st while donating one dollar to the pantry. The entire DN School Community had a fun filled day showing their team spirit while raising $137.15 for the pantry. Mrs. Mauger's second grade class thanks all of you for your participation in this worthwhile "Souper Bowl!"

The entire Durham Nockamixon School Community would like to extend congratulations to Garrett Modig for winning the Spelling Bee held on 1/31/14. We wish him luck as he goes on to represent our school at the Regional Spelling Bee held at Pennridge High School in March. Good Luck, Garrett!

Many thanks to our peer mediators for offering their time during their lunch and recess in order to participate in training sessions held in January with Miss. Duffy and Mrs. Vassallo. We appreciate their willingness to support our younger students in the mediation process. Special thanks to the following peer mediators: Ava Rittenhouse, Kyleigh Davis, Libby Stiansen, Alayna Stiansen, Morgan Alpaugh, Kevin Menesis, Jessica Menesis and Alivia Runyan!

MTS Club had a delayed start due to the weather! Due to the snow, MTS began on Thursday, January 23rd , which means it will run through Tuesday, February 18. 2014 from 3:45-5:00. This after school club is provided to our students in grades 3, 4, & 5 in the areas of reading and math. If you are picking your child up, please plan to arrive by 4:55 in the main vestibule where students will be ready for pick up at 5:00. Thank you for rearranging your schedule in order to support your child's education!

Due snow, our clubhouse start date was postponed a week. Therefore, our clubhouse will launched on Monday, February 10th and run through Monday, March 10th. The hours of DN Clubhouse are 3:30-5:00. This year we have called upon the support of our middle and high school alumni more than ever in order to continue offering a variety of clubs. We appreciate their support! Also, special thanks to Mrs. Patti Smeland who has graciously given of her time to organize this wonderful event for our students! As she prepares to follow her son to PALMS, she will certainly be missed and we are looking for a parent(s) who would be willing to share their hobbies and interests by running a club or shadowing Patti as she oversees this Durham tradition for her final year. If interested, please contact either Marie Collie at or a PTA officer. Thanks for your consideration!

Mrs. Przyuski's class is sponsoring a school wide fundraiser in order to fight childhood cancer. Funds raised will go to "The Get Well Gabby Foundation". Students are invited to participate in the event by donating a dollar to this worthwhile cause and can wear their pajamas to school on Friday, February 21st. We look forward to this fun filled school wide event!
